I think the NAACP is wasting its time by passing a resolution asking the Tea Party to repudiate racism. It's like asking a leopard to change its spots.
It's good to hear where the Tea Party is coming from. That makes it easier to identify and dismiss the racists and loons and expose the group's attempts to hide its racist beliefs behind the mantra of patriotism.
Frankly, the NAACP should continue to focus on issues, such as health care reform, education and unemployment. I'm more concerned about urban education than ignorant Tea Party members holding racist signs and spouting uninformed rhetoric. The fact that the black unemployment rate is double that of whites is an issue the NAACP needs to continue to address.
Suprisingly though, Hilary Shelton of the NAACP and Mark Skoda of the Memphis Tea Party were able to have a civil conversation on CNN recently.
Shelton said the Tea Party needs to make an effort to deal with the racist signage and comments at some of its events and Skoda asked that Shelton renounce comments from the New Black Panther Party, which he did.
That's all good and well but it's not helping to solve any of the problems affecting African Americans, the poor and other minorities in this country.
In a sense, the NAACP resolution gave the Tea Party more significance. There is an attempt afoot to use the New Black Panther Party to further the political goals of the conservative movement. The NAACP should seek out and attack the link between conservative Republicans and the Tea Party movement.
On the flip side, I guess it's good to see two people in this country who disagree on an issue having a civil discussion. There's too much yelling and general ignorance coming from both sides in this country and not enough heard from moderate, commonsense people.
So, while I applaud the civility of the discussion, my ultimate reaction is, who cares?
Check out the conversation between the NAACP and Tea Party and let me know what you think.

Sometimes a pinky hears things the We The People don't. When a director signs such a "kick me out of your system master" policy statement, [Declare no racist agenda{actual or hidden}], and chalie won't; they have an ethical oath to do as they must or resign. Telling the TEA party our field reports tells us way too many Tmembers ain't right!
Give me something in writing, showing me you are honest, and I will deal with you. Would not you; expect the same ethical behaviour of thyself?
Gimme abreak man, why the attack? The bombardment of laser guided bad in the public eye directed television.now today, when NAACP via Mass Media outlets and major television channels openly declare in front of world camera Anti-Marijuana enforcement action and persecution is a major and egregious violation of the human rights of our Great Nation's common or as Corporations think of US "Little People"........demonstrate the Directors decision to go public "Anti- Marijuana laws are civil rights violation".NAACP is on target otherwise governance would be praising them for always being inactive toward any movement in their stated mission statement.
I hope this isn't too much at one time? But NAACP needs for We the People to address this issue in the hear and now. Do don't do ! No try.
I don't think the good Director will last under this much ethical pressure. Am I wright , or am I write.

The declaration and open attack on the tea party by the NAACP President, Ben Jealous reflects clearly that this organization has lost its way. The NAACP does NOT represent the interests of the underclass. In order justify its existance, and to keep collecting its dues, the NAACP, had to do something. Ben Jealous would rather get black people talking about racism, rather than the fact the organization, (or the OBAMA Whitehouse) has done NOTHING to help black people. Just like many on this website, they would rather talk about race, than talk about the 17% black unemployment, they would rather label someone a racist, than talk about the millions of black people losing their homes, they would rather talk about race rather then seeking to inform black people about the real issues, they would rather point fingers at the "white man" rather than condemn the the black homicide rates in our cities. They would rather call out tea party than look within at the failures of the NAACP. They would rather keep black people stirred up about "racists" instead of holding black leaders accountable, they would rather call out the tea party, then to hold our mayors and governers accountable for our crumbling schoools and cities or the REAL inequities in our justice systems, the NAACP would rather call the tea party racists and seek to further divide the country and instead working to bring groups together and overcome differences peacefully to achieve our goals. Ben Jealous should be ashamed. Dr. King's legacy was that of a peaceful protest - even in the face of violence, he never responded with hate.

unfortunately despite good will on both who spoke on this cnn interview, life is still black & white, white people have a big distrust of african americans and they still want their country back, racism is in the very fabric of american society and until i repeat until white america deals with it fringes such as the tea party, fox news and others who despite living in a country where they have grown up with african americans view us as strangers in a foreign land, how can americans live in a country and yet do not no their neighbours, you don't want to embrace us but keep us at arms length, even in the church and in prison we are still segrated, you want to keep jim crow alive and kicking!

It wasn't long ago that I really believed that we were now in a post racial society. That was until those in the race business, (NAACP, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, liberals, etc.), saw their jobs threatened by racial harmony. Now they are stirring up the pot and I am afraid that they may be having some success. When you hurl slanderous accusations directed at a group of people, (calling white tea party attendees "racist"), people are eventually going to get offended.
On another note, I heard Al Sharpton on TV today explaining why the TEA party needed this NAACP resolution and the new black panther party did not. He explained that the TEA party is not openly denouncing racism, (although isolated), in their ranks and the leader of the New Black Panters said that he doesn't endorse the guy that wants to kill white people. Someone needs to explain to him that the Tea Party isn't in the race business and the new black panther party is.

Perhaps we should grant Whites the authority to open casinos on their land, and give them a few grants for education and healthcare facilities. Maybe then they will stop crying about wanting their country back. Yes, it's ridiculous, because we all know that this is not their land. The Native Americans (including the Mexicans) moved freely across this country for thousands of years before the White man "found" it.
Seriously though, we need to continue to fight this kind of bigotry and hate speech wherever it raises its head. I am grateful that the NAACP has awakened from what has seemed like a long sleep, to comment on the Tea Party and their agenda.
