Wesley Snipes Loses Appeal in Tax Case

Action-adventure film star Wesley Snipes watched his appeal to avoid a three-year sentence for tax evasion fall by the wayside on Friday, so he is still headed for prison.

The 47-year-old actor was convicted in 2008 on three misdemeanor counts of willfully neglecting to file federal income tax returns on the more than $37 million he made primarily from films.

A U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that Snipes not only received a fair trial and a just ruling, but that the federal court "acted well within its considerable discretion."

While Snipes has been free on bail and waiting for his appeal, the 'Blade' science-fiction trilogy star has been keeping busy by acting in various films. His most recent comeback movie credit was his depiction of a drug dealer in Antoine Fuqua's film'Brooklyn's Finest,' co-starring Don Cheadle and Richard Gere.

Snipes' argument for not paying the feds at the time was that he was a "fiduciary of God who is a non-taxpayer." He also contended that he was a foreign diplomat. None of the actor's excuses held water with the Ocala, Fla., jury that convicted him.

As to when Snipes will begin to serve his sentence, Black Voices will let you know once the details are released.
