A judge has ruled that the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) faction led by the Rev. Sylvia Tucker is the winner in the legal fight over who controls the moribund civil rights group based in Atlanta.
But the legal wrangling will likely continue.
The loser in the fight, the Rev. Curtis Harris, has said he will appeal the ruling of a Fulton County Superior Court judge that took control of the civil rights group from Harris, treasurer Spiver Gordon and chairman Raleigh Trammell.
For nearly a year, the SCLC, founded by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., has been represented by two separate boards of directors, with each claiming a legal right to run the organization. Last month, each faction held their own national convention.
In a stance illustrating the silliness of the situation, Harris said he will not work with Tucker's group to end the fighting.
If the SCLC is to survive, incoming leader Rev. Bernice King, daughter of the group's founder, needs to step in and squash Harris' losing SCLC faction like a bug, so the group can speak with a single voice.
I am not certain the SCLC will make it. Fighting for civil rights these days takes strong and smart leadership and there is little evidence the SCLC has either, but that could change with the legal ruling in place.

Dude you are obviously white, or a self hating black person. You try to convince people facts that are distorted and calculated. So i'll start with the theory that Hoover was somehow Black, who really cares, the dude was a racist and homophobe who was according to you black and gay. So where's your point. Roy Cohn another person with this calamity of being jewish and gay, but was an anti semite and homophobe also threw his people under the bus for money and prestige. America is littered with these individuals, maybe you're one, who knows, but those are the facts. Your hatred for MLK is understandable since, if you're white the legacy of hatred you have been subject to is a hard cycle to break for you. If you're black, the need for attention to recognition for your self worth is apparent, in your stance against MLK its obvious, You have some mental things going on for you. Now as for you critisism of me, condsidering i grew up in the south during the civil rights era and having a minister father, who had to calm black peoples fear of standing up for themselves every Sunday, i find your comments laughable and stupid. Having dedicated my life to the plight of the misfortunate, from being a counselor for the mentally ill, to having my own non-profit corporation that converts FEMA trailers into mobile classrooms and couseling centers for low income americans and third world countries, to me you're just another faceless voice we black people have to contend with. Why don't you try to first open your small brain! If, you're suggesting that Hoover was half black is just mere theory, then that only supports my point with you "not" being either well informed, or simply just another ignorant black person here on Black Voices.....(and there are many here) that as always want, to find fault with something that you obviously don't even have the knowledge about in the first place! Why don't you do your research, before you come here alleging that's it's only a "theory" as you put it? verify, before you make a complete idiot out of yourself! Well, you brought Hoover up, not me! So, why shouldn't it have some importance? You also mentioned that he was "gay"...so what? Who cares! There are lots of gay people, both back then, and now! So, what was your point for even bringing that up? You were just throwing trash as usual, but that's seems to be the norm for most blacks anyway. Why does someone who is half black so "hateful' against black people as was he? That's the issue that you need to address, and better understand and how his attitudes greatly influenced his ongoing hatred for both the Civil rights Movement,blacks in general, and for MLK. As, for Roy Cohn...who really cares about him! He wasn't even a part of the discussion, now you're trying to do what? Well, let me remind you that we were talking about J. Edgar Hoover, and MLK, not Roy Cohn. So, perhaps I need to ask you "what is your point?" When you can't even stay on point in the first place.

As, for spreading HIV/AIDS allow me to also bring you up to speed with some factual data, since your comments show that you're way beyond ignorant! Black people are responsible for "51%" of all HIV/AIDS cases in the US today, and the problem with that is that black people are only "13%" of the US Population!. Black women are the " highest risk group", and continue to be the "highest risk group" for "all" reported HIV/AIDS cases in the US for both women, and men, as well as for all races! Black women are directly responsible for "66%" of all cases for women of all races! That, means that two of every three cases for HIV/AIDS for women are African American women! Black women like you saw that nonsense on Oprah's show which aired on Friday, April 16, 2004. about black men on the DL, and then ran around on several TV programs ...for years including Maury, Jerry, and even on Tyra's Show, saying and spreading the same lies that's now coming out of your mouth as well! Saying, that black men who were going to jail were having same gender sex while in prison, then came out and was infecting all these "innocent" black women with aids! Black women have been running around since then with the same lies! Because, they are the "highest risk group", and don't want to be held accountable for not practicing safe sex, like the majority of non-black women do! But, the CDC. "Centers for Disease Control" has proved that to be nothing but a black woman's lie! Yes, some black men on the DL have infected Black women, that's a fact! But, only 2%! Black women are at 66%! Black women that have contract HIV/AIDS and as a result die, 50% got AIDS from "intravenous drug usage"! So, you tell me why are all these black women on drugs? Yes, 50%! The others as a result of having unprotected sex with heterosexual men, and multiple sex partners...black men are also guilty of doing the very same. So, stop lying to yourself and living in total denial..since it's clear you don't even know the real facts! He's a MD, PhD ,Director, National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention. You'll, also see where black women are the "highest" for all other races of women and all races with regards to STD's as well! Black women have the highest statistics for gonorrhea, herpes, clymidia, and syphilis in the US today! According to the CDC the numbers aren't just high, they're "staggering! "
