Nicole Paultre-Bell, the young woman who lost her unarmed, would-be husband Sean Bell on the day before their nuptials nearly four years ago in an out-of-control hail of police bullets, is mulling over possibly running for the position of Queens City Council member.
The seat of the late Councilman Thomas White, Jr. (who represented the 28th council district in Queens which incorporates Jamaica, Rochdale Village and Richmond Hill) became open when White recently died after a long illness. Reportedly, nearly a dozen candidates are scrambling for the vacant political seat.
Although the young woman has not publicly announced her plans to run for office, sources say that she is on the verge of making a decision toward hitting the campaign trail. Paultre-Bell currently lives outside of the district in Far Rockaway but is still registered to vote via her mother's house located in Suffolk County.
State election law mandates that Paultre-Bell would have to move in to the district by election day and obtain 899 registered-voter signatures on a nominating petition in order to be seriously considered as a viable candidate.
The Mother of Sean's two children has remained in the public eye since that fateful day when her fiance was killed in a 50-bullet police shooting. She has oftentimes stood side-by-side with activist Rev. Al Sharpton. The young Mom has also involved herself with the political advocacy organization headed by Sharpton, the National Action Network.
No one can predict how Paultre-Bell would make out running against more seasoned candidates. The November 2nd elections are nonpartisan with no primary, so time will tell.

Who really cares! And, if she does then hope that she tries wearing some makeup, or something and get away from that "standard" unkept black woman's look! I saw tired ass Al Sharpton in the photo standing behind her. Oh, well looks like we already know that this is nothing more than the "usual" game!

Eric, I hate to respond to one of your comments because it gives you more credit than you deserve, but I just have to know what happened to you. Why are you so angry at black women, why are you so hurt by them? I wonder if you realize that the same people you are trying to offend actually pity you. We pity you because it has to be one hell of a burden to walk around everyday with so much hate in your heart. You should seriously work on growing up or getting some sort of counseling or both. I know you won't provide an answer to my questions, you never respond to people instead you just sit there, wait for a new story and then proceed to spread your hate. You do not have the balls to respond to people who have replied to your comments although I know you read each and every one of them. Good luck with your growth.

@ Mpinga, you are correct, Eric is a self loathing individual who has nothing better to do bur degrade black women. Make me think either he was hurt by one maybe his mother, I'm not sure. Either way he is very very sad. If you read most of his posts, they are "copy cats"...he will cut and paste his way thru a comment. I'm sure you will see these exact words on another post.
I also think that maybe he is gay, and blames black women for him being that way....it could be a lot of things, but I tell you what, the more he comments, the more ignorant he becomes.
We tend to fuel his anger by commenting, so I have decided to stop commenting on his comments. I don't have time to keep a fool busy. LOL
This goes for Eric, Greg, David aka Mr LOL, and Bill...these people alone have the ignorance on "lock"

True, that. We need more Black council members and others in new york politics. I cannot understand how our numbers in jew york are not represented in the political arena. I am impressed by the number of Black people represented in politics in south florida, the deep south. I find jew york and other northern cities to be more racist than the deep south. How did that clown italian, or whatever his nationality is, come to run for governor? Black peoples numbers are not adequately represented in the police, fire departments, etc. Good luck, Mrs. Bell.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 25, 2006, Sean Bell, a 23-year-old New York City man due to be married later that day, walked out of a Queens strip club, got into his car with two friends who had been celebrating with him, and ended up dead after cops shot 50 bullets at him and his friends.
The look on Nicole bell's face comes from years of fighting a corrupt and biased system. November 25th 2006 changed the lives of her children and her forever. Before November the 25th she, like most folks probably heard of how trigger happy the NYP are, but to experience it firsthand is another thing.
Most Civil Rights leaders and folks who're always marching/rallying for equality for all of the races, are starting to become a dying breed. We need more young folks getting involved with the struggle. And if anyone believe that we no longer need people like Al Sharpton, the NAACP and others who protest when someone's civil rights have been violated...is nieve.
We need coalitions that are constantly monitoring and confronting racism, profiling, and biases. As a country...we've come a long way since the 60's but not far enough.
Good luck to Nicole Bell. The story that brought her to this point, is a sad one but because of HerStory, she would make a great city Council member. We need more in-your-face for justice, young, fresh and energetic leaders.

I think she should go for it. Given the experiences she has had to overcome, I think she can add some insight to the council. I wish her the best, and I am glad to see her making the most of herself. She will be fine.
