As someone older than the age of 40, I can sympathize with Mayor Phil Best (pictured above) of Dublin, Ga. The sight of young brothers walking around with their pants falling off their behinds makes me cringe.
I'm not sure why. There are plenty of terrible fashion statements being made out there by big-money celebrities on red carpets and mall-rat wannabes around the block.
But there is something about those falling pants and the exposed boxers that scream ignorance.
Even still, I question Mayor Best's decision of making saggin' an indecent exposure crime that could get violators a fine of $200.
Tweet The law would prohibit the wearing of pants or skirts more than three inches below the top of the hips, exposing the skin or undergarments.
Police will be left to enforce the law, so are they supposed to run around high school parking lots with tape measures in hand looking for violators of the three-inch rule?
I'm sure city officials hope that a simple warning for kids to pull up their pants will be sufficient, but we all know that there will be at least one kid (and likely more) who will push the law to its constitutional breaking point by getting arrested and fighting the ticket in court.
And he may win.
It's hard to see how the law would stand up to judicial scrutiny. Can't you just see the ACLU jumping in with its high-priced lawyers, defending a kids right to sag? Give me a break.
Some people are already complaining that the law will be used to target young black males. Well, a quick visit to just about any mall will tell you that young white males model just about everything they see from their black counterparts, including saggin'. So it's up to the community to make sure that young black boys aren't the only ones getting pinched for this infraction.
I'm not sure how this will turn out on the streets or in the courts, but I applaud Mayor Best for at least attempting to get the pants of young boys back where they belong -- on their behinds.

It is so sad to see any young boy or man in public view with his pants dropped down! Parents/guardians should be the example on how we're to present ourselves in the home and in the public: personal hygiene, washed faces, brushed teeth, clean clothes. . . have a sense of pride about yourself and not imulate the lack of respect for one-self. I'd like the new GA law to become a national law . It is unsanitary to have your underware on a seat: public transporation or in the home and the pants up on the waiste would help. I wonder where are the minds of people who are raisig children & toddlers who crawl around to allows anyone to sit on their furniture with their butt=crack on their furniture, totally disgusting, unsanitary and it appears that a male is inviting another male to unatural an unnatural sexual relationship.
Hurry up n pass this law in Indy also. I hate this look with a passion. The two brothers pictured above looks down right ridiculous and nasty. My son is not allowed in my home if he has his pants saggin. He must have his pants belted at his waist to enter my home. Parents please correct your children.
This is good indeed. Back in California when I went to High school I remember when only White guy's wore there pant's hanging, I am serious. they called these guy's "Hard guy's" The wore Flight jacket's, blue shirt's, 501's, and steel toe combat boot's , They were alright people for the most part of my going to school there, but the sagg'n? we Black young dude's were not doing and used to laugh at sagg'n. There is what is called a "Waist band" this waist band fit's approximatly two inche's about the ass. I don't wanna see anyone walking around with their pant's dropped. putting their ass in jail for this is a brand knew start in "Respect Rehab". love it!
Get them mayor, please. Whatever you have to do to cut out this shameful, evil, stupid practice please do it. And God bless you. If I never see a pair of dirty drawers again, I will be eternally happy and thankful that you made a grand step.
When will government officials focus on ending race hatred, prejudice, and discrimination and stop wasting time and tax money on a mundane sagging-pants issue.
If most of the white boys were sagging their pants, this would not be an issue. Where is a picture of white boys wearing sagging pants?

I firmly believe that only gay men would wear their pants like this. I mean who else would want to show off their wares in public?

Yay for the Mayor. I am Black and don't see anything racist about it. Something has to be done; it has become absolutely ridiculous.
