Retired Gen, Colin Powell says that critics of President Barack Obama have failed to critique him on the issues and have instead delved into "nonsense."
Powell, appearing on NBC's 'Meet the Press,' said that "fringe" elements in this country are not dealing with the issues. Instead, the focus is on whether Obama was born in this country and whether he is a Muslim or a Christian.
"Let's not go down low. ... Let's attack him on policy, not nonsense," Powell said.
Powell is right.
If you disagree with Obama's stance on health care, fine. We can talk about it. If you disagree with his plans for an economic stimulus, let's get a cup of coffee.
But if you spout that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck nonsense about Obama not being a Christian and not being born in this country, then lose my number.
The tales about Obama not being born in this country are not based on fact and have been proven untrue. The last time I checked, to profess faith in Jesus Christ was one of the main requirements of calling yourself a Christan. I've heard Obama do that.
The latest nonsense to come out about Obama is that he was influenced by his Kenyan father's anticolonial thinking. Dinesh D'Souza offered up a ridiculous and profoundly unprofound assessment of Obama's thinking in a recent Forbes cover story. D'Souza wrote:
It may seem incredible to suggest that the anticolonial ideology of Barack Obama Sr. is espoused by his son, the president of the United States. That is what I am saying. From a very young age and through his formative years, Obama learned to see America as a force for global domination and destruction. He came to view America's military as an instrument of neocolonial occupation. He adopted his father's position that capitalism and free markets are code words for economic plunder. Obama grew to perceive the rich as an oppressive class, a kind of neocolonial power within America. In his worldview, profits are a measure of how effectively you have ripped off the rest of society, and America's power in the world is a measure of how selfishly it consumes the globe's resources and how ruthlessly it bullies and dominates the rest of the planet.
Former House speaker and potential Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich jumped on D'Souza's assessment of Obama like a hungry dog would a piece of red meat:
"What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?" Gingrich said. "That is the most accurate, predictive model for his behavior."
Uh, Obama met his dad once, when he was a child. What scares me is that Gingrich can publicly spout this nonsense while having an actual shot at being our next president.
Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post reported that the Columbia Journalism Review called D'Souza's article a "fact-twisting, error-laden piece of paranoia" and "the worst kind of smear journalism -- a singularly disgusting work."
"I think it represents a new low," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

While I applaud Powell's comments, he didn't go far enough in explaining why the "fringe" is in such an uproar about Obama.
The answer: They still haven't come to grips with the skin color of the guy sitting in the Oval Office.
Unfortunately, in America, it still boils down to race. The fringe element that Powell speaks about knows that it can scare a certain percentage of Americans with its xenophobia. Many Americans rejected such nonsense when they voted for Obama. Those same folk need to step up and reject the nonsense now.

"If you disagree with Obama's stance on health care, fine. We can talk about it. If you disagree with his plans for an economic stimulus, let's get a cup of coffee."
I disagree with the socialist Obama on health care and economic stimulus, he is throwing taxpayer money down the sewer on these, but that's his socialist dream ... to re-distribute wealth with overpaid government bureaucrats deciding how to do the re-distribution.
As far as being able to "talk about", these disagreements, what a LIAR you are. My posts disagreeing with Obama on these issues are routinely deleted from this website. BV does not tolerate anti-Obama posts.
"But if you spout that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck nonsense about Obama not being a Christian and not being born in this country, then lose my number."
Obama is an atheist, Christians don't support abortion and gay marriage. As far as not being born in this country, Obama refuses to produce a LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE to prove this. He has spent millions to fight having to provide a $10 copy of his long form birth certificate. The only rational conclusion is that he was not born in the US as he claims. Moreover, he's using someone else's social security number (from Connecticut) and somebody falsified his selective service application.

Bill where do you get your distorted info from? President Obama is a Christian and so am I. I pray for him daily and ask God to protect, bless, and give him wisdom to lead America in these difficult times.
President Obama was given this assignment a country on the brink of a depression. No comments or actions can block or stop what God has planned for America with Barack Obama as President. If you read the Bible you would find this Scipture: (1 Tim.2:1-2) "I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
giving thanks, be made for all men; For Kings, and for all that are in AUTHORITY; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty". We as Chirstians and GOOD HONEST AMERICANS would be doing what the Bible tells us to do. CASE CLOSED. AMEN

To the Rev. You say Mr Obama is a Christian just like you? Are you sure you practice the same kind of Christianity? Mr Obama has done or stated the following; He has said his faith is not absolute, he is for abortion (infanticide to be exact), he has mocked the Bible, he dose not think his country is a Christian country, he hasn't gone to Church since April, he believes there is more then one path to salvation, he believes that his salvation is based on our collective salvation and most recently he has quoted the bill of rights and intentionally left out the term "our Creator". I find it hard to believe that your beliefs are the same as his. If they are, then you are no more a Christian then he is and certainly not a Reverend. You will most likely find excuses for what he has said and done, especially for the US not being Christian, when as a Reverend you should be exposing him on his false beliefs.
It is funny how you find exception to what Bill says, but don't even scrutinize what Mr Obama has said. That is very common here on BV and the only rational reason for this is that those, with that rational, believe their color comes before their Lord. I put nothing before MY LORD, how about you Mr. Reverend? If God put Mr Obama into authority, then he also put Mr Bush there too. He also put into authority Hitler, Bin Ladden and of course all the slave holders. Maybe you need to rethink that part, what it means is forgiveness is for all, even those in authority. You as a Reverend should know that, but it doesn't work in your black point of view. I believe God is hoping we American's realize the real truth about our current President and end his reign.

I did not need a long form birth certificate to join the U.S. Army with a wrong listing on my selective service card. Mistakes are sometime made.

Mr. Schrier, Gen. Powell is absolutely correct in his assessment of the president critics talking nonsense. I will go further and say that those that keep talking about he (the president) not being a christian and/or not being born in this country (which the supreme court would not hear such nonsense)just love to spew hateful rhetoric. I must say, there are a lot of ignorant and self-serving Americans out here in the land of the free. "Free to act and think foolishly".

Bill, you're an idiot, and would do well to find another venue because you have far to much time on your hands. You're a "sico."
