I am not exactly sure why, but Bishop Eddie Long just canceled his appearance on the 'Tom Joyner Morning Show.' Long was set to appear and interview with Roland Martin. I presume he was going to address the allegations of sexual coercion being made by two young males to whom he provided spiritual guidance.
On his Twitter page, Martin had this to say:
"Got 2 hours sleep. Headed to LA radio studio. No Bishop Eddie L. Long this morning on Joyner after late cancellation."
Martin later said the following:
"I just texted Erica. Interview is off. Due to 3rd lawsuit, no Bishop Long. Only his attorneys will speak."
Actually, I think that the cancellation was a good move by Long. Right now, there's too much money at stake for him to do much public speaking on his own behalf. B.J. Bernstein, the plaintiff's attorney, did a very good job of laying the case out on behalf of the other side, so while Bishop Long is quite convincing in his own right, the truth is that he should not be the one speaking in public right now.
The allegations against Long are disturbing. His cancellation on TJMS reminds me of the same thing that happened three years ago when Michael Vick was going to address his dogfighting allegations. Vick also said that he was going to appear, only to cancel on the morning of the show. It's hard to know if the announcement-cancellation model is strategic. I wonder if there is an incentive for the accused to say, "I really wanted to go public to defend myself, but my darn lawyers told me not to. But the truth will eventually come out."
My question for both Long and everyone else involved in this case is will the truth ever really come out or will this suit be settled behind closed doors?
I would not be surprised if there was a significant (yet undisclosed) financial settlement offered in the case, with both parties agreeing not to discuss the case in public. Then, there would be a well-crafted explanation for PR purposes that many in Bishop's "flock" would accept to be the truth. I'm not here to say that Long is guilty, but I am here to say that his people deserve to know the truth, and not just hope that the Holy Spirit guides them to forgive Long and pray that his demons will go away. If you are being misled by your pastor, you deserve cold, hard facts, not just fancy words.
The truth will either set you free or cost you a lot of money, Bishop Long. Which one will it be? Most of us say we want complete honesty, but most of the time, we really don't. The comfort of an impressive illusion can often be preferable to a flawed, dysfunctional reality.
Should it be the case that Long, the notoriously anti-gay pastor, is actually gay himself, I wonder how many in his congregation will simply overlook reality and focus their minds on painting an image of him that fits the fantasy they've embraced for so long.
It's no different from a young boy believing that his mother is a virgin or a father believing that his 21-year-old daughter is a sweet, innocent little girl. The illusion is more comfortable, and given that my father is a pastor, I've seen up close how some in the church consciously and consistently live a complete lie in their day-to-day lives. So perhaps the willingness to so easily overlook any potential ethical misconduct on the part of Long is simply a reflection of the realities also being experienced by those who follow him.
Again, we don't know if Long is guilty for sure just, but after seeing the seemingly suggestive pictures that he sent to his "spiritual sons," I personally think some questions need to be answered. At the very least, I can say that if he were sending something like that to my child, there would be bloodshed in the church that day.

Pray and fasting is needed at this time, the healing process will take long, on both sides the victims especially and the world wide church who tunned in each week, what happened? the bishop needs to repent asap on national tv for the healing to begin, we need to stop being in denial if this and it is looking that this is true, this sounds like a train wreck, this should be a warning for the church as a whole don't mess with God he is Holy so he requires us to be Holy.
1 Timothy 5; we should read verse 19: Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses. Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, "so that the others may take warning". You can read the rest of the passage of scripture yourself, this later warning is by God to the Church take note God will expose you publicly after he has warned you privately!remember there are angels in heaven who behold the eyes of little ones!

if there is evidence as the accusers claim, then make it known so all parties involved can move on with healing and getting this put behind. i just pray that he hasn't done something so betraying to his family, but also to the god he's been representing. the bible also reminds us that what is done in the dark is brought to the light. pastor or not, men or women were not designed for same sex sexual relationships. god made man then he made woman for the man for the purpose of his anointing his direction for marriage and reproduction. remember people, married or not spit don't make babies. men and women make babies supposedly as directed by god.

My problem with this situation is that this man is a pastor, a husband, a father of four, and most importantly, an advocate against homosexuality. There are now three individual young men that he is accused of starting a relationship with when they were children, yet I have not heard one person say that regardless of Atlanta’s consent law at the age of 16, this pastor was wrong for having a sexual relationship with the children that he was supposed to be healing and leading. Worst of all, he is a married man with four children of his own! It is shameful to think that we are here to protect the young, yet we never question the behavior or intent of the adults in authoritative positions amongst our children; we see the BLING, and we forget what is important. In addition, we are so quick to call our children liars when they come forward with information about despicable behavior such as those the three young men exposed. It is no wonder we have millions of sexually abused children who are silenced by their attacker, making them victims for a second time. I believe these young men! I also believe that the number of victims will grow! Predators like Pastor Long tend to become serial in their behavior when they see that they are not getting caught, and it was not coincidental that he situated himself in that program that he created for young men; the same program that he picked his victims from. Anyway, this is no surprise, because those who speak the loudest against the gay community are always the ones with the greatest indulgence in its activities.

Brigitte, 100% agree with you!! The first comments among Long's followers was that these lawsuits were a shakedown; an attack on Long's character; etc. There has to be some truth to this because if someone is claiming they had sex with me, and I'd never even seen them naked, then I'd be denying and speaking out against these claims ASAP.
Long's media appearance cancellation proves that these claims are somewhat true. Behind the scenes, they are laying out a game plan, especially since a third man has surfaced. His reps even stated that the reason for his cancellation was due to the third lawsuit. It's like a game of chess - and Long's enemies (plaintiffs attorneys) have him cornered. Long has to now figure out a new position. SMH!

All you black women are coming on here getting all upset...over what? The real issue here is that people particularily these black wmen have to understand that this pastor is just a man just like any other man! He's not God, nor will he ever even be close to being God! In time the truth will emerge, and then you'll see this person for exactly what, and who he is! If I were you i wouldn't hold my breath!

I agree as former Director of Sexual Violence Program and advocate for rape victims I believe that we as society is quick to not believe victims especially if the perpetrator is an authority figure or well known in the community. In all the posts I have seen and conversations heard everyone is condeming these three young men. I think it took a lot of courage and fear to publilcy admit the trauma and violation that these young men have experienced. As an African American woman we do not want to believe that rape and sexual abuse exist in our society but it does. Men are also victims also. Not one person has said that the Bishop could have done these things everyone is focused on the fact that he is a minister. Violence against people does not discriminate and 88% of people who are raped are done so by someone they knew not a stranger. My prayers go out to these three young men. Be proud and hold your head up high. FOr the Bishop who is being hypocritical and using God's Word to justify his horrible actions-SHAME ON YOU!!!
