Michelle Obama is gearing up to headline nine democratic fundraisers in six states over the next few months.
According to the White House, it's all systems go for the first lady, who is excited about her participation in the fundraisers but also reputed to not be a "political animal."
Mrs. Obama's popularity has reportedly surpassed her husband's in polls, and now she will test the waters by making appearances at nine events over the course of 12 days, from Oct. 13 to 27. There may be more events added to Mrs. Obama's already hectic schedule, especially around the November elections.
The first lady will be campaigning for Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, whose name was thrown around as a possible presidential candidate in the 2008 elections. She will also show her support for Senators Michael Bennet of Colorado, Patty Murray of Washington, Barbara Boxer of California and Senate hopeful Alexi Giannoulias of Illinois, who is trying to hold the Senate seat once held by the president.
White House aides say that the first lady's schedule was carefully put together so that she could attend the events and not disrupt her time with daughters Sasha and Malia. Mrs. Obama prefers fundraisers and not rallies, because she does not travel on weekends, which is when they are typically held. Instead, she prefers to spend that time with her children.
Susan Sher, the first lady's chief of staff, told the Associated Press:
"From the beginning, she's wanted to hit the campaign trail. It was just a matter of figuring out what would work with her schedule and what would be most useful."
Other first ladies who stepped up to the plate to campaign for their fellow party candidates during midterm elections were Laura Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barbara Bush.
Stephanie Cutter, an administration adviser, also told the AP:
"She's campaigning to advocate, to rally voters behind specific candidates based on what we can do together to build a better future. She comes to this as a mom, and that's the lens through which she sees the world, and that's her test for every issue -- what it means for her daughters and all of our kids."

@ Ms.Ruth Manuel-Logan,
Good for Michelle because Lord knows it's going to be an uphill battle ;) I've started to pay close attention to the tea party! At first I ignored them believing that they would just cause drama within their own party- but now they're making some loud noise.
However, I'm truly glad that the CBC and Hip-Hop Caucus is resuming their GET-OUT-THE-VOTE CAMPAIGN :)Regardless of our differences of opinions at time-our vote is very important.
My real concern is that if the republicans control the senate/congress then our troops in Iraq won't be coming home anytime soon. And that-my sistah-is an American concern-regardless of what party you are affiliated with. No diggedy...no doubt!

"Mrs. Obama's popularity has reportedly surpassed her husband's in polls"
Michelle is only more popular than Barry now because Barry has sunk so far. Michelle's popularity has also sank, just not as much as Barry's. I'm glad she's going to Democratic fundraisers, that ought to keep the amount raised down!

You are right, it's going to be a very "uphill" battle for Democrats, non-black Americans have REJECTED their and Obama's big spending and socialist programs.
The "CBC and Hip-Hop Caucus" are the only solid support for Obama, so whether you are glad about their campaigns or not is irrelevant. Their solid support for Obama is not enough to save him.
Don't worry, the Republicans WILL control the House and probably the Senate as well. The best thing about them controlling the House is that Obama can then be INVESTIGATED for his many frauds and illegal actions, many of which are impeachable.

As an African American independent voter who hs alwys had the blinders off in reference to Mr. and Mrs. President and First Lady, it is my personal opinion that this Fundraising Campaign and the fake PR concerning the number one mom contestant is silly and will not appeal to politically knowledgable voters, of all demographics.
(1) In between the numeorus vacations, Mr. and Mrs. First Family have never since the inauguration stopped campaigning and fund raising, and whenever you turn your television on Mr. President is giving us a teleprompted speech, many of which can be condesending to the American Public who this First Family seem to think is totally illiterate and mindless.
Maybe this is why the only "Change" in America has been, and rightly so, the "Changed My Mind" awakening that has been long coming.
(2) This Fundraising trek shows that "being in office" trumps "properly representing the voices of America. More specifically, why should anyone consider voting for any of these candidates who showed the American Public-of all races and political preferences- that the current "majority" could care less about We the People, as evidenced by the passage of numerous legislation that was never read or analyzed vefore passage, with them and Miss Nancy telling us that the "details" would come later. What a Joke.
(3) I can still see Miss Boxer denegrating the Army General who respectfully and politely called her M'am.
But even more interesting is the fact that Mr. and Mrs. First Lady cannot do anything at all without either blaming the Bushes or comparing their actions to those of the Bushes. This couple seem to have some sort of complex and its sad.
Mr. President has been an ineffective leader and the people that Mrs. First Lady will be fundraising for need to be defeated.
In fact, the fundraisers will most likely be similar to the one last night in New York where even many of the Democratic attendees heckled Mr. President.
I also wonder why Mrs. First Lady isn't fundraising for Uncle Massh Harry in Nevada.. After all, "weuns po black fokes is in need fer all ours massahs being repsented" causin Dey needs some dat mony too".
