Just when you thought that the weekend was getting started, the weekend really got started. A fourth man filed suit against Bishop Eddie Long, alleging that the respected pastor coerced him into having sex. This is the latest in what some think could become a very long list of legal problems for Bishop Eddie Long.
The suit claims the following:
"Breach of Fiduciary Duty; Negligence; Fraud; Infliction of Emotional Distress and other Counts based on Sexual Acts by Bishop Long against this young male church member."
The plaintiff in the suit, Spencer LeGrande, alleges that he met Bishop Long when he was 15 years old. He traveled with Long on various trips, including visits to Africa and Kenya. He says that intimate contact occurred during the entire time he was in Atlanta.
I admit that I am beginning to believe that there might be another side to Long. As I mentioned in my conversation on MSNBC, the goal is to make sure we see the evidence, and to separate the relevant from the irrelevant. In the event that Long did breach his fiduciary duty to these young men and their families, there is going to be (excuse the pun) serious hell to pay. Also, those who stand to lose the most are the members of the congregation at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, who've dedicated so much to creating the lifestyle enjoyed by Long. If he was using church funds to engage in this kind of activity, it's clear that he'd chosen to significantly deviate from the path that God and his congregation needed him to walk.
One ray of hope that lies on the horizon for Long and the rest of the black church is that there might be room to have an open conversation about how the black church deals with homosexuality. We've all embraced a lie that says that sexual purity is the norm, every man is completely faithful to his wife and that praying long enough will make people turn "ungay." The black church is an institution so ingrained in the psyches of many black folks that we are sucked in it before we make a conscious decision to be a part of the institution. The peer pressure is enormous, and anyone caught questioning the church or living outside its boundaries is permanently ostracized.
As a result of this involuntary indoctrination, we have millions of African Americans who live double lives of self-righteous condemnation during the day and malicious, deviant activity at night. I never cease to be amazed at how some Bible-thumping, Bible-quoting, Bible-carrying so-called Christians can live the way they do, yet somehow believe that their spirits are clean because they can recite the word to every gospel song they hear on the radio. Perhaps instead of allowing the black church to be a cultural and social institution, it can actually be a spiritual one. This obviously doesn't make reference to everyone who attends church on Sundays, but most of you know those folks who spew God from their lips and Satan from their activities.
Long is a phenomenal pastor and charismatic figure in the black community. All of us should be curious about whether there is a culture of homosexuality within the black church and how it can be discussed openly. There is also the question of pedophilia in the church, which puts our young people in jeopardy. This does not imply, of course, that homosexuality and pedophilia are linked in any significant way. There are both heterosexual and homosexual predators, and, unfortunately, one of them might be sitting next to you on Sundays. I am certainly hopeful that Bishop Eddie Long is not one of them.

I have been cursed to be born and trapped for 61 yrs on this evil little blue ball of CRAP as a Black Gay man.
Lets not mince words, IT IS A FACT that the Black Community (religious or not) would bury my Black Gay @$$ up to my neck and stone my head to death (just like those. enlightened Muslims).
And VERY sadly, I am not a "turn-the-other-cheek" or "forgive-and-forget" type of person; so I hate Black people equally proportioned to as much as they hate me.
In fact I created a thread on this board last April asking if Gay Blacks should join the KKK in response to the Black Communities HATE (I had a Deja Vu): http://conversations.blackvoices.com/glbt-community/f2a53650c6784bf986a23753c64a0349/should-gay-blacks-j%20.../5488560753584cf9982a6788a175c104
And during the extended death period of my Mother due to complications of Alzheimers, instead of helping DEVOUTLY RELIGIOUS CHRISTIAN people with "the Lord this" and "the Lord that" being every other word out of their mouth STABBED ME IN THE BACK and:
- Lied to me
- Lied about me
- Stole my Mother's furniture
- Accused ME of stealing my Mother's money
- Accused me of Elderly Neglect
- Got me FALSELY INCARCERATED
- I was not allowed to talk to my mother for the last two months before she died.
Religious people can BURN IN HELL, and eat poo from Satan's @$$ forever as far as I'm concerned.
btw: In the entire 2 years since I moved way out of Chicago to a mostly White (and very accepting) far Western suburb (to be near my job), not one single thing of mine has been stolen (it happened ALL THE TIME on the South Side of Chicago).
I wonder why??

I ONLY ASK THESE QUESTIONS BECAUSE MOST OF THE GAY PEOPLE I KNOW THAT ARE IN YOUR AGE GROUP HAVE LONG RESOLVED THEIR ISSUES, AND ARE NOT WALKING AROUND HOLDING ALL THE HATE AND BITTERNESS THAT YOU EXPRESS. IF YOU ARE BLACK, HOW CAN YOU HATE "THE BLACK COMMUNITY" WITHOUT HATING YOURSELF. WHAT YOU ARE IS HURT. YOU NEED TO GET SOME MENTAL HEALTH COUSELING TO HELP YOU DEAL WITH YOUR PAIN AND ISSUES. HATE DESTROYES THE HATER. NOT ALL "RELIGIOUS" PEOPLE THINK OR ACT THE SAME, SO YOU CAN'T MAKE GENERALIZATIONS. AND THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "RELIGIOUS" AND GODLY. YES THE "BLACK COMMUNITY" NEEDS TO DEAL WITH IT'S HOMOPHOBIA, BUT THEN SO DOES ALL OF AMERICA. I HOPE THAT I HAVE BEEN OF HELP. BE BLESSED MY BROTHER. PEACE.

The word says that narrow and difficult is the path to righteousness, and few travel that way, wide and broad is the path to destruction. I have had alot of the same experiences that you have, and you absolutely right, to remove yourself from where you are not loved and respected. God's word says you are to come come out from among THEM . You are a highly favored "Child of the King" and covered in God's grace. If you were not, Satan would not single you out, for so much persecution. Your war has been won and your victory assured: but you must still fight the battle. Forgive them for they know not what they do. You were their test and they failed God's test in their treatment of you! Hold your head up high child of a thousands years. Their time is fleeting and will pass in the blinking of and eye.
Hold fast to God's unchanging hand. They have not killed you, you suffer as Christ our example suffered. If He was able to set his face like flint and march to Calvary to die on the cross for your sins and mine. We ought to be able to as he did.
Be at Peace! NO CROSS! NO CROWN!
No cross, Persecution builds, patience; patience builds character; character self-control. You are different than they are, God's chosen.

Mr. Mike Payne,
First I want to say, I'm so very sorry for your loss and how you were treated (even though I'm only reading your side)
Second, I want to say, I am a loving Christian and a very proud one. One that does not condemn Gay people. I have friends and family who are Lesbians, and I love them......very much!!!
We all have something we're bearing.
Also, please know that there is a difference between Religion/Religious/Churchgoers/
Benchwarmers and real Spiritual Christians who really have a heart for God and for His people.
So please don't group ALL Christians in the Burn in Hell thing...ok...some of us are real....
thank you.

The "Black Church" (or any Christian church) deals with homosexuality the same way the God that we serve deals with homosexuality. Look it up in His word (the Bible) and He gives it plain as day, with no need to interpret.
But of course, the worldly folks such as Dr. Watkins wouldn't dare do that!
