"There is nothing, and I mean nothing, we can't do when we stand side by side, shoulder to shoulder," said AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka. "We will stand together. And we will win together. And we won't let anyone -- and I mean anyone - stand in our way."
Speakers criticized Republicans for being obstructionists in Washington and for policies that send jobs overseas.
"Stop the obstructionism. Work together. Stop playing politics as usual and put the American people first. We're tired of the politics and the posturing and the games." said Rose Dixon, a health care worker from Pawleys Island, S.C.
Rev. Al Sharpton urged rally participants to hit the streets in the weeks leading up to the November election.
"We've got to go home and we've got to hit the pavement. We've got to knock on doors. We've got to ring those church bells," Sharpton said.
It's a great message, but this is something that supporters of the current majority should have done a while ago. It would be helpful if progressives would end their criticisms of Democrats and support their policy efforts.
It doesn't make sense that Progressives, who are angry that Democrats did not go far enough on issues such as health care reform and financial reform, would play into Republican hands.
It's clear that President Obama has faced persistent criticism of his policies from Republicans. Despite the good things that health care reform does, such as preventing health care companies from denying certain claims, many people in this country think the legislation means we are turning into a socialist country. That is solely based on the outlandishly false rhetoric from people such as Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh who have become the de facto leaders of the Republican Party.
Progressives don't seem to remember that President Obama inherited a country that was in deep trouble. He has also encountered destructive resistance from Republicans. That is resistance not based on policy disagreement, but solely on politics. Limbaugh has publicly wished that Obama fails. If the president fails, regardless of his policies, that will hurt all Americans, not just Democrats or Republicans.
Former DNC chair Howard Dean is telling Progressives to be angry after Nov. 5. They should follow the lead of Latino voters, who are rallying around immigration reform. They have seen that it is Republicans who are pushing hateful immigration legislation similar to the type proposed in Arizona.
Instead of criticizing Democrats, Progressives should be working to help re-elect them. If Progressives are unhappy with Democratic control of Congress, they are going to be miserable with the Republicans.

Abraham Lincoln, quotes about Racism:
"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything."

Some people you can't tell anything. It's like the old adage "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." Some folks worship Lincoln as if he was the second coming, lol! And all these so-called "intellectuals" usually fail to point out that Lincoln "freed" the slaves in parts of the country he had no control over. Remember the CSA was a FOREIGN country at that time. With it's own constitution and president. But if you say something good about Obama you're some kind of "traitor",lol!

Republicans are the very definition of Hypocrites.
They have places themselves above reality humanity and no longer care about the realities they inflict on others in order to protect their own selfish interests.

Okay Democrats, we know the truth and now we have to stay focused and vote. Imagine you have a child, husband or wife that has an illness that up until the passage of Health Care Reform you were denied coverage or dropped from your health insurance and now your family member has the ability to continue with that treatment. Now imagine, the Republicans are back in charge and they have already said that they plan to repeal
health care reform. Imagine that in 2008 (pre President Obama) you lost the majority of your retirement because the regulations that were in place were repealed and now with Wall Street reform, they can no longer use your money to make risky investments. Now imagine, the Republicans are ban in charge and they have already said that they plan to repeal Wall Street reform back to the regulations that were in place in 2008. You stand a great chance of losing that retirement again, because Wall Street can return to making risky investments with our investments. This is what's at stake.
And mswll4, that's your right to be a Republican just as it is my right to be democrat. I'm a Democrat because I believe in the Democratic party and policies that they bring forward not because someone else is.

okay. Democrats Imagine there is socilaized health care and you have a child that has a problem but the doctors are so far out an patient load that you cant be seen. and there are enough skilled doctors because there is no insentive to be a doctor in america any more. Your child is mis diagnosed because of the young intern and has more problems then before. Lets destroy the whole system. What country has a better system? Canada no Africa no England. I cant decide.
As far a The boys on wall street. Do you have a 401 k or any ivestments? Where do you think one puts there money for retirement. We all can't be stateworkers or be on welfare.

Why didn't the Republican do anything about the helath care system falling apart before Obama? It was because they were getting rich of of it in the dysfunctional state it was with businesses and CEO's getting up to $500,000 at hospitals claiming they were creating "jobs" while putting doctors out of business. The sheep just went to these "insurance" companies for their healthcare instead.

That is one thing I will NEVER understand, why is it that so many people tend to believe that Black people are of a "hive mindset"? I mean damn people some of you are stuck in the 90's. Meaning you are still going on and on about Jesse and AL being some sort of "leaders" of the Black community. I can't speak for everyone but most people I know have lost a lot of respect for Al and Jesse. But not White people, they seem to be the ones who are STILL talking about these dudes. They hold about as much weight in most Black communities as Abbott and Costello!

How come so many of the attendants of this march left their garbage (literally) behind for someone else to clean up?
