With less than three weeks left before a midterm election that is looking likely to deliver heavy losses to Democrats, the New York Times Magazine has released an in-depth article, complete with presidential and staff interviews, about President Obama's reflections on the first two years of his presidency and his plans for the second half of this term. In the article, the president also shares some of his mistakes from his first two years in office.
According to excerpts from the Times, aides say that the president has been spending "a lot of time talking about Obama 2.0," brainstorming with administration officials about the best way to revamp the strategies and goals of the White House.
"It may be that regardless of what happens after this election, [Republicans] feel more responsible, either because they didn't do as well as they anticipated, and so the strategy of just saying no to everything and sitting on the sidelines and throwing bombs didn't work for them," Obama says in the article. "Or they did reasonably well, in which case the American people are going to be looking to them to offer serious proposals and work with me in a serious way."
"Even if I had the exact same Congress, even if we don't lose a seat in the Senate and we don't lose a seat in the House, I think the rhythms of the next two years would inevitably be different from the rhythms of the first two years," Obama says. "There's going to be a lot of work in this administration just doing things right and making sure that new laws are stood up in the ways they're intended."
In the Times article, the president says he has regrets about allowing himself to be defined by some as "the same old tax-and-spend Democrat," was stricken too late by the reality that "there's no such thing as shovel-ready projects" and perhaps should have "let the Republicans insist on the tax cuts" in the stimulus.
Obama also says that his administration was perhaps too ambitious in chasing momentous policy initiatives while at times forsaking the more important parts of making that legislation more successful.
"You can't be neglecting of marketing and PR and public opinion," the president said.

Obama knows full well why he pushed his socialist crap on the country, even though the majority didn't want it. It's because he had to hurry and cram through his radical leftist agenda while he still had a Democratic majority in congress. There is no doubt, too, that he will veto all Republican attempts to repeal his crap. But that won't stop the process, the Republicans can DE-FUND his programs even without outright repealing them, just yet. All Obama will accomplish by hanging onto his unpopular messes is to make the Democrats, including himself, even more unpopular.

He is a good man, but he made some serious serious blunders. For this voter, id say:
1.He spent way too much time and energy on health care. His agenda was more important than what folks wanted, and that was jobs. He clearly thought and was told the stimulus would do the trick, by the time (one year later) he returned to the issue, it was to late. He ignored raising unemployment for 9 months.
2. In fairness he did get a lot accomplished, and may prove beneficial to me in the long run, but his to liberal for me.In fact id say he is more liberal than black, and thats a problem for me. However well intentioned, liberalism hasnt always served my people well.
3. Louis Gates was a colossal boo-boo. Beer Summit, thats some George Bush dumb shyt!About as dumb as bush landing on that aircraft carrier.
4. Blaming Bush is so disingenuous, it’s insulting. Especially since bush just continued Clinton policy regarding housing. Especially since the democrats were not only in charge of congress, the were in charge of both housing and banking committees, both which failed under democratic leadership. In reality both parties are responsible for the horrible economy.
5. And Im not going to even talk about ignoring A/Amercans.
No President is perfect, so will see what happens in 2012. Good luck with the midterms, it aint looking good.

Why do everyone expect Obama to clean up a 8 year mess in just 2 years. Bush mess us up. Unfortunately, by the time the Bush mess is cleaned up many people will be too old to contribute to the economy.

This is truly amazing I’ve heard this BS for some time now “Why does everyone expect Obama to clean up a 8 year mess in just 2 years”
This is factually inaccurate and just flat out untrue, DEMOCRATES HAVE RAN CONGRESS SINCE 2006? DEMOCRATES HAVE BEEN INCHARGE THE LAST 4 YEARS. That is just before and during this economic crisis.
What the hell have they been doing? What the hell was Congressmen Obama doing? I don’t recall any warnings or financial alarms being signaled from the PARTY IN CHARGE.
(D)Chris Dodd and (D)Barney Frank and the democrats were the ones overseeing housing and banking, and both sectors failed.
So you damn right I expect him to clean up a mess his party helped create. No one is innocent.
Politicians in both parties share blame for pressuring the banks and mortgage companies to facilitate homeownership for minorities and people who would have difficulty paying. Difficulty my azz, couldnt pay, is the truth.
In other words, both republicans and democrats made financial institutions loan to folks who could not afford a home, who had bad credit, who had no savings.
At the time (D) Barney Frank, said he was willing to "roll the dice". Well he crapped out, and so did we all. And he should lose his damn job for it.
But the truth is both partys and some consumers all share a blame in what happened.

He knew what the people wanted and the reason they elected him. He immediately surrounded himself with the very devils that caused the problem. His initiatives solidified their positions and if certain legislation is passed, will assure the citizens do not have much recourse. I'm glad to see the american people finally fighting back the banks and I hope obama puts the real "smack down" on the banks and let them bear the pain for the mistakes they made and inflicted on the american people. I don't know, all I know, I am deeply disappointed. He can do more, much more. Single payor health care. Health care for all americans. Universal health care. Do that, and watch the jobs open up again. Too much money is going into adminstration and not enough into direct help to people. Dismantle the military industrial complex.

Running for and being President are two different things. Most Americans understands what president Obama was up against. He had to work with the people he had at that time. However, as the WARS are coming to ends and the BILLIONS of dollars that was use for war purpose will be use for AMERICA. DAMM IF YOU DO, DAMM IF YOU DON'T. I for one am hopeful because we have a THINKING person at the heam of this country. Why is it so hard for some of us to look beyond the present. It is not always going to be this way. One of my regret is the Obama girls have to witness the UGLINESS in the form RACISM directed at their FATHER. I hope BITTERNESS is not planted in their little hearts. I pray that the family stay strong. I believe one of the reasons the family don't go to church often because they have to inform the church, why not just leave a section open for VIP, only. It would be nice if they would just show up two minutes before services, and be able to be normal people, guards and all. LORD, REST YOUR HANDS UPON THE FAMILY SHOULDERS. That includes the bodyguards, administration persons everybody who are present and accounted for.

As a Marine Corps veteran Mr. Obama knew he did not have any means of CHANGE prior to taking his plight to run for office. It was all about Deception. Create a sense of HOPE,CHANGE, and RESTORATION and the "DREAM" will be obtained. Bush--who froze at 9/11 as Commander and Chief of the United Statess of America, Cliton--The Self Gratifying Narcissist, and Bush--The Arrogant daddy said the same exact rhetoric to obtain a VOTE. The entire system is corrupt and this country is completely Blind to accepting the truth. It is not so much the politicans as it is US the readers and writers of mediums such as this. If each and everyone of us called our representaives, showed up at their meetings that they don't tell us about, nor do we enquire unless somethig such as this rubs us the wrong way. What is the solution, who knows corruption has been around as long as man has walked the earth. Honestly, I don't believe there is a solution, especially when the systme is GLOBAL.
