What started as bickering among Warner Robins, Ga. city council members has quickly turned into an ugly racial fight with a white lawmaker telling his black counterpart he should be working in a cotton field.
Local NAACP leader Larry Holmes has asked councilman John Williams (pictured above, below) to resign his seat on the city council.
The mess started when black councilman Daron Lee (pictured above) felt he was being disrespected by Williams, who is white, and others on the council. Lee then reminded the council, "I'm not working in a cotton field."
Talk about a set-up line?
Williams replied, "You should be."
Lee was probably wrong to bring up the cotton field reference, but Williams was way way out of line. At that point, Lee would have been within his rights to settle this little disagreement "like men" outside in back of the city council building.
Only kidding.

Beating up Williams wouldn't accomplish anything, but I can understand the frustration of being talked down to by white counterparts. I think a lot of black people share Lee's frustration.
As for asking Williams to step down, I think the NAACP chief is wasting his time there. The civil rights group needs to organize a campaign to shine a light on the several fights, racial and non-racial, Williams has started over the years.
I think most people in Warner Robins, white and black, want to avoid embarrassment, especially in a community that bills itself as "Gerogia's International City." And Williams is an embarrassment on a national and international scale.
Williams is accused of pulling a gun on a white guy who rents an apartment on Williams' property.
And in another flap, Williams said he didn't want his skin to touch the skin of a black city official.
Williams sounds like he has anger issues and may be in need of psychological help. He will have a lot more time to get it if the NAACP compiles the facts of his shoddy record, distributes some fliers at election time and gets Williams off the council.

unfortunately rasism is more than a statement. Or a phase used. But its part of white culture beleiving they are superior and can delegate the Blacks back to the cotton fields. But as you know blacks are slowly buying all the cotton fields. Rasism ans racist people are naturally born ignorant.

It's obvious that Joe is a racist just as the councilman. The councilman represents how a lot of
white people feel but are afraid to let their true colours show. This country was founded on racistidealogy so I'm not surprised of this incident.

Lee opened the racial door. This is a prime example that if Black people live and speak like their White counter parts by IGNORING people, you can have a successful career. NOT everything said is an offense. We have to do better. Now he is a joke and ineffectual on his council seat. But politicians rarely think of the citizens they serve. A another Black person would have DEFINITLY replied the same way. "Then get a pickin' nigga!"

@Robert....No one actually opens a racial door & everything said may "NOT" be an offense to black people but certainly telling someone "U should be picking cotton" was meant to be offensive.Who says he is no longer going to be effectual on his job? You? Furthermore, you're the joke and you may let white people speak to you in whatever manner they like and choose to believe that they are not being offensive & what does that make you? Rhetorical question= no answer needed!! You sound like an unhappy, uneducated fool & with all your grammatical errors i'm sure you are. Go hang out with joe, drink a few beers, & allow him to make a fool out of you!!!

Robert you are funny with your quotes. I feel the blackman shouldn't live in a glass house if he dont want stones throwed at him. Why is he throwing out this crap and then get mad if some one throw something back at him. It makes no difference what color you are. It would be different if the whiteman started the subject, but he did and expecting a answer that he wanted to hear. That whiteman just gave him what he wanted a reason to get angry.

This sadly, is a prime example of politics in the deep south that politically, that's not talked about and does not make the 24/7 cable news cycle.
Blacks and Whits living everday in racially charged small towns all across the Southern states.
Blacks live and stay on one side and Whites live and stay on the other....and there is no love at all between them.
And many Blacks and Whites in these snall towns are related by blood due to the days of slavery incest. They all know it on both sides but it's taboo and is never revealed and no one comes together. Whites are afraid that Blacks will sue or take legal action against them for all the land and the money that they stole from Black farmers thought the generations. So the hate relationship on both sides carries over from the past and continues until this day.
These hotly debated city counsel meetings that occurs all over the south in many small towns and mid-size cities where racism is still alive nd well and those towns(as many people want to forget) were racist havens of the Jim Crow era: those "sundown towns" where Black people, who lived in those towns, had to conduct all their business during the day and had to return home before sundown everyday because coming out a night assured Black people a violent racial incident......and for White Councilman John Williams, keep in mind that he was born, raised, grew up and conditioned (probably helped and watched Black people being hanged) during those Jim Crow days and now as an elderly man and a town politican, is still the racist person that he was in mind and spirit growing up and within those small towns, there is still racial segregration and separation going on in the forms of politics, jobs, housing, where people live, interracial relationships, social relationships, business ownership etc and the fact that the cotton fields, which is the main sticking point here, is still being farmed along with tobacco and other crops that were and still a large part of the money economics under the noe almost extinct sharecropping system, in which Mr. Williams or his father and late ancestors were a large part of the farming in those towns with Blacks as sharecroppers.
And now, Hispanics and illegial aliens now do those labor entensive farming jobs.
So in this situation regarding NAACP Larry Holmes and Councilman Williams, there is no love there and no cooperation to work together in unision to better Warner Robins, Ga but everyman for himself to take care of your own people and damn the other side type of racism that gets lost in the political correctness of this country in which people continue to live in denial and bullshyt themselves about blatnt racism in this country.
For every White person who says that they aren't racist (and that a real stretch for many who say it), they have family members, relatives, friends, associates and acquaintences who are too scared and just cower under the pressure to step up and do anything about...all they do is hide and point the finger as all cowards do.
White people, the ones who claim that they are not racist, you want to do something for me? Grow a pair and attack your racist White brethern who are racist...the smll town racist like this councilman and the Tea Party racist elements since you know they they are racist......quit being scared nd frightened and do something about it because what's worse than a White racist is a White person who claims to be non racist and is too scared to do anything about it...IMO, you are just as much to blame; and as racist as the White racist you point the finger at but do nothing about.
And stop waiting for Black people to cover for your fears and bail you out regarding race and racism all the time.
White men and White women, man the fyck up!!
