Folks get real ignorant when they're desperate.

The Tea Party Nation (aka Nutjob Central) sent out an e-mail to Minnesota voters to vote for independent Lynne Togerson (pictured below) over the incumbent Democrat, Keith Ellison (pictured above).

And why do they want to get rid of Ellison? Because he is corrupt? Because he molests children? Because he steals from old ladies? No, its much worse.

He's a Muslim.

The e-mail says:

There are a lot of liberals who need to be retired this year, but there are few I can think of more deserving than Keith Ellison. Ellison is one of the most radical members of congress. He has a ZERO rating from the American Conservative Union. He is the only Muslim member of congress. He supports the Counsel for American Islamic Relations, HAMAS and has helped congress send millions of tax to terrorists in Gaza.

OK, let's break this down.

He is the only Muslim member of Congress. FALSE. Muslim congressman Andre Carson of Indiana was elected to the House of Representatives in 2008.

And so what if he was? Have we stooped so low as a country that organizations can openly decry another American because of what religion he practices?

He supports the Counsel for American Islamic Relations (CAIR). Why is this a problem? We never hear anyone condemned for supporting Catholic Charities or B'nai B'rith or the National Congress of American Indians. What is wrong with someone joining an organization promoting issues important to American Muslims? Isn't that what America is about, freedom of assembly? There's a group for every d**n body in this country.

CAIR's goal is to present an "Islamic perspective on issues of importance to the American public and seeks to empower the American Muslim community and encourage its social and political activism." And this is a BAD thing? Sounds like some ole NAACP sh*t to me, but then again, they used to call Martin Luther King a secret communist.

He supports HAMAS? Frankly, a congressman sympathizing with the suffering occurring in Gaza is not uncommon. HAMAS is the duly-elected party in control of the Gaza Strip. Opponents are clearly attempting to misconstrue his concern for the millions suffering in Gaza for the support of the extreme terrorist factions of HAMAS.

He helped Congress send millions of tax dollars to terrorists in Gaza. And just how would a Congressman who has been in the House less than four years accomplish that? And half of the time he's been in office, Republicans ran the whole show. Really, Tea Party?

It is really just sad. It is no coincidence that this shrill anti-Muslim sentiment is peaking now. Frankly, anti-everything is en vogue with the election of the first black president. Coincidence? I think not.

I hope these organizations see what type of damage they are doing not only to their own citizens and the basic foundation of this country, but to how America is viewed around the world. There are those who prey on fear and insecurity for political gain, not realizing the lasting damage they do to society.

I'm sure any minute we'll hear an outcry from Tea Party membership about how disgraceful an e-mail like this is and how it has no place in our nation's political discourse.

I hope Ellison beats that lady's a**.
