There's a lot to think about when it comes to the elections. The Democrats are asking for black votes like we owe them, and perhaps they owe us something too. My thinking is that while voting Democratic certainly lies within the interests of the black community, we should also work to ensure that they follow through on commitments to us. Issues such as mass incarceration, black unemployment and educational inequality are important to black people, so in order to keep the black voting base enthusiastic, some commitment to addressing racial inequality is critically important.
Rev. Sharpton and I are on tomorrow as well for special election coverage from 1 pm - 4 pm EST. As you know, I don't plan to bite my tongue.

While I agree that these commitments need to be kept. We have realize a few things, as president we need to keep a or get a majority of Democrats in Congress & the Senate because we all know what the repubilicans have in store for Us as a working class and as a race. 2nd he has been putting out fires since he took office he has done more in 2 yrs. than any other president with less than a full cabinet staff being confirmed for the year and a half. Give him a chance to work we should have his back come on folks. 3 rd he has to be for all Americans not just for Black Americans. and 4th he can not force cooporate america to hire. people or not to out source jobs. and the things he is doing well he has to fight both Democrats as well as Republicans who only want to follow their agenda.

You speak as though President Obama is running for re-election. Really what difference does it make whether we vote for a democrat, republican, or independent? They are all politicians and most of them have their own hidden agenda. Its election time and at this point they are only saying what they think the people want to hear. During election you can't listen to what these politicians are saying you have to check their votes in the House and/or the Senate. This determines who they really are and who exactly they are representing. As for the newcomers to the political arena we have to check their background. Hopefully, this will determine their character and integrity. Even then we may later find that this individual was a wolf in sheep clothing. At the Eve of the Election I am still trying to decide should I vote Democrat, Republican, or independent. Why, because when the democrats had the majority in both houses they struggled to accomplish anything, obstruction and needless delays in passing critical bills by parties, failure to address the issues of the minority, parties only concern seems to be that of their special interest groups, (the ones that pay them the most money to get them elected), corruption in Government, and the politicians that voted for the bailout of the rich but has shown little or no sympathy for the poor by voting against such bills as health care reform. They are now discussing if they should continue the Bush tax cuts. If you have noticed majority of these tax cuts are for the rich not the poor. In my opinion one reason that this Country has fallen to such anger, disarray, and division is because the rich was given a BAILOUT and the middle class and poor were left up the creek without a paddle. Then they tried to convince us by saying, “it was best for the economy. “ (PLEASE! If you believe that I have some GOOD swamp land in Texas for you to buy). We are one nation under God and when the middle class and poor people fell in this Country then the rich should have fallen as well. These are just some of the issues and concerns that I continue to struggle with in deciding the lesser evil. While I am uncertain as to which is the lesser of the evils the one thing I am certain of and that is I WILL BE VOTING.

INHISIMAGE The President`s agenda is what`s running. if We as a people vote Democrat the agenda will be successful. the agenda is what is most in line with our agenda as a race and as an working class american. more than the Republican's agenda. The Oboma agenda;Education, jobs and equal hire and working rights in what is in line or should be with ours. Check the record of President's Oboma`s accomplishments. don`t listen to the media where truth is often down played, misrepresented or down right not mentioned.By the way you don`t know what he can do. because he has and I might add did a good job of it was put out fires created by the Republican party and the Bush agenda and have not had a chance to do his thing yet. if you will give him 2 yrs with support. before you put him down. Give him the same chance you gave Bush or the rest of the Presidents. you need to have the Man`s back on this one Bro.

WHES:
I did not say that I do not support President Obama! Yes, I too believe that he has had only a short period of time to dig us out of Bush's mess. I am aware of the President's accomplishments but I am also aware that he has not received complete support from the Democratic Party. During the election quite a few of his party members disassociated themselves from him. So, how do you know that he will receive their support in the future? I do feel that the President has not addressed major concerns of minorities (i.e. highest unemployment rate, highest incarceration rate, immigration etc.) In fact some of the so called African American Leaders such as the Good Reverend Al Sharpton has requested that the African American community not address the President with our concerns because he is Black and we are Black. What kind of sense does that make? If not now, WHEN? I for one make my own decisions. I don`t let the media or anyone else make up my mind for me. I am my best resouce along with common sense...and my common sense tells me that the President is going to have a hard time with or without the Democrats.

"we should also work to ensure that they follow through on commitments to us"
i agree, however why should this election be any different than the past. This politcal tactic has been going on for decades.
They do the same thing and we do the same thing, its a pathetic dance we do with each other ever 2 and 4th year. And hear we are again.
It appears democrats, are going to recieve a beat down, so the very people who have recieved the least are asked to save the day.
I wonder if they would so intrested in us, if they didnt need us? Still I applaud your efforts.

Guest what I lived to be 71 years old, and for 71 years I watched Black puppets sale Black people out. No different than a (SLAVE ) auction, highest bidder wins, learn how to play poker, there is 52 in the deck with out the jokers,ok. Life in America is great once you learn to play the game.If the only friends you have are Black, may the Lord help your poor ass. Now go back to work and pay those bills on time, send me my rent money on time. Have great week, crack will kill you.The truth is not that hard to understand , open your eyes and sober up.

Listen to Dr. Watkin's words: "My thinking is that while voting Democratic certainly lies within the interests of the black community.." HOW..does VOTING DEMOCRATIC lie within the interest of the black community?
Am I missing something? If there's some secret Republican "conspiracy" to harm blacks if Republicans are in control of Congress..WHY isn't the OBAMA JUSTICE DEPARTMENT all over it???
WHY isn't the MEDIA all over it? They CERTAINLY don't like the Republican Party.
LIES..all LIES black people!!!!!!!!!
BOYCE..the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus, Sharpton, Jackson and the Democrat Party..HAVE BEEN LYING FOR YEARS to blacks about a "SECRET" Republican desire to harm blacks - It's time to WAKE UP my black people..and STOP BELIEVING in the Republican "BOOGEY MAN"........

@ James Ward and bro man
Here's a piece of a article from salon:
"Almost 50 years ago, the Republican Party made a decision to embrace the backlash generated by civil rights among white Southerners.
Traditionally, they had been staunch Democrats, but they were also culturally conservative, and as Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic Party embraced civil rights once and for all, they were up for grabs. The Republican Party offered them a home, a steady, decades-long realignment ensued, and today conservative Southern whites comprise the heart of the GOP -- just as culturally liberal Northerners, who called the GOP home before civil rights, have migrated to the Democratic Party.
There's nothing new about this story. In fact, it's the story LBJ himself predicted when he signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and supposedly mused, "There goes the South for a generation.
But it's an inconvenient story for today's Republican Party, which still relies on cultural, racial and ethnic wedge issues to keep its base in line -- but which also needs to win over less conservative suburbanites across the country to compete in national elections."

Republicans are trying their best to rewrite history. There is a legitimate reason why it's been "engrained over many decades, their parents, grandparents, family" to distrust republicans. The party is not just a "BOOGEY MAN" but more like a Klan of white racist.
