Gridlock is approaching.
Unless Democrats and Republicans find a way to work with each other, it looks like this country is headed to a nasty bipartisan battle that won't benefit you.
After winning control of the House in last week's midterm elections, Republicans have been spewing a lot of tough talk, and Democrats, with the presidency and razor thin margin for control of the Senate, aren't backing down.
This means legislation that could benefit Americans will never see the light of day and other legislation, such as health care reform, could be dismantled.
The AP writes:
Resurgent Republicans rallied Sunday behind an agenda based on unwavering opposition to the Obama White House and federal spending, laying the groundwork for gridlock until their 2012 goal: a new president, a "better Senate" and ridding the country of that demonized health care law.
Republicans said they were willing to work with President Barack Obama but also signaled it would be only on their terms. With control of the White House and the Senate, Democrats showed no sign they were conceding the final two years of Obama's term to Republican lawmakers who claimed the majority in the House.
"I think this week's election was a historic rejection of American liberalism and the Obama and Pelosi agenda," said Rep. Mike Pence, the Indiana Republican who is stepping down from his post in GOP leadership. "The American people are tired of the borrowing, the spending, the bailouts, the takeovers."
I think what Americans are really tired of is political bickering that doesn't make things better for anyone.
President Obama has extended a hand to the Republicans, but he's not getting any positive responses:
"The president did say this week he's willing to work with us," said Rep. Eric Cantor, the Virginia Republican who is in line to become majority leader. "Now listen, are we willing to work with him? First and foremost, we're not going to be willing to work with him on the expansive liberal agenda he's been about."
Democrats are also not planning to back down:
"I don't see any sign of the president retreating from his principles, but I do see his willingness to reach out, and wherever reasonable and in the interests of moving the economy and jobs forward, he's going to work with the Republicans, as are the Democrats," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., who led the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Both parties are jockeying for the 2012 presidential elections. Caught in the middle is the American public. We can't wait for another two years for things to happen. Thousands of Americans are losing their jobs every week and the country's housing market is on the verge of a massive foreclosure scandal.
Maybe Democrats and Republicans should pick a couple of important issues and find the common ground to work on them for the sake of all Americans.
I don't know about you, but I hate sitting in traffic.

I like how you make the distinction between beneficial legislation and gov't-mandated health care. Right on.

white racist america have declared the final civil war battle, when they talk about the tea party and kicking the british out, really want they want is to kick president Obama out of office, they don't care if there is stale mate, and who suffers, they have a tunnel vision to get this black man out of office,Obama might try and soften them up with tales of my father or talking about his mother's side of the family to appeal to his white ancestory but this won't wash with those determined to repeal everything that he has put in place, it's sad but it's true when they say they want they want their country back that means any advancement we have made will also be repealed to until we get back to the back of the bus.

The value of the dollar has weakened against foreign currencies, our national debt is so high, our grandkids will be paying on it. In fact a child born today already owes approx. $47,000. This has to get beyond the Black and White issues. These things affect ALL OF US. This country is in dire need of "real" conversations, not Racial Platitudes or broad statements on Racial issues that have absolutely no foundation in the Country...year 2010. Not 1960. Republicans and Democrats Must Work Together. Political leaders voted into office from BOTH PARTIES are voted in to work for the people.

I agree with you allie and add this with your comment. The repubs knew by sending their hate message out to the haters in this country it would help them get back some power in the government so to stop the poor and the middle poor from getting some help. Well, all you did was make it more of a mess than it already was haters. Unless the haters can find another HA HA bush to run all this was just a bump in the road. People forget that it took 8 years for haters to make this mess and it's going to take 12 years or more to fix it. So, haters get ready to cry in your beer come 2012 because the people will take back what little power that was given to you back in 2010. Now, take that hater!

At BillSrier: You Are the problem. This election had nothing to do with the policies of PRESIDENT OBAMA. Just remember this - no matter what you do, he will always be known in history has the 44TH PRESIDENT of the United States and there's nothing you can do about it :)
Take your country back? From whom? Remember...a lot lot of your caucasion brothers and sisters voted for him too. You are so pitiful....I don't hate you, there are other things in life that warrants my attention. Go ahead stress yourself out. The world is still going to continue to evolve

The truth is that we love Pres.Obama and what he would like to do,however he is making him self appear to be a weakling. His idea of getting along with the Republicans has ruined his presidency. His accomplishments will be of no importance. This is what was wanted,to be done.Make the first Black American President look foolish, and Obama has fell into the trap.In fact he could almost be called a tom.It is unbelievable, that he doesn't see or care what is being done. You have clowns like Demint,Palin,Christie talking about him like a dog,yet he doen't fight back? He even jokes about how they are treating him like a dog.Not funny. You(Obama)are holding the highest office in the land. Even Martin Luther King had more fight in him. Seems like Michele Obama could school her husband,or has a little education drove them both crazy? I was a little angry at Rev.Jessie Jackson when he made that comment about Pres.Obama but I think I'm begining to see the light. It is not a fight about race on the Democratic side, but those Republicans have let it be known that it is racial on their side.I(We)understand that Obama can't get into a race war,but he could show more back bone to the American people, black or white, who stood behind him and voted him into office. He could have shown more back bone for the elected offices(people) who lost their jobs because they backed him.Wake up President Obama, get it together.Never allow anyone to say anything about you,and leave it unchallenged.Do your job.Bush did his and didn't care about anyone's feelings.Get busy.Tell those Republicans what you are going to do,whether they like it or not. NO COMPROMISE.

I am still an Obama supporter; because I think in the end his ideas, and policies will prevail. But I do wonder if people close to him point out to him (enough) that he reflects much too much, and that he needs to get directly to the point? He needs to MAKE VERY CLEAR his stance on issues, stand firm, and then move on to the next issue at hand without (what we use to call) hem hawing around.
