How much political influence can a conservative blowhard with a prescription drug addiction in his past wield in America?
A whole lot, according to the newly released Newsweek Power List.
Radio host Rush Limbaugh easily landed the top spot on the annual political power rankings list, which is compiled based on year-end earnings. The list, which measures who has the most political influence in the country, includes politicians, ex-politicians, talk show hosts and anyone else who Newsweek editors believe shape the political discourse in America. Limbaugh pulled in an estimated $58 million last year -- more than $22 million ahead of the next contender on the list, Glenn Beck.
Limbaugh is also tens of millions ahead of President Barack Obama (tied for 19th with television host Bill Maher) and former Presidents Bill Clinton (eighth) and George W. Bush (18th).
He plans on using that power to overturn most everything the Democrats have done in the past two years since Obama took office.
"The mistake the GOP made in 1994 is that they stopped teaching after they won," Limbaugh told Newsweek. "[The GOP should] send Obama a repeal bill every week and make him veto it. My attitude is, who says we can't override his vetoes?"
According to the Power List, conservatives overall have a huge edge in earnings.
