A New York City school principal may be terminated, after she had a lesbian affair with her assistant vice principal, gave her a terrible job performance review, then claimed to have received death threats from the woman.
Crystal Simmons (pictured above), who was the founding principal of Harlem's famed Academy for Social Action (ASA), desperately sought the help of school administrators when former lover and assistant principal, Candy Jones, threatened to murder her.
According to a department spokesperson, Simmons admitted to having sex with Jones at the school and during school hours. The source told the New York Daily News, "In a setting where the focus is supposed to be on student learning, conduct like this is simply unacceptable," she said.
The middle and high school students seem to be rallying around their principal. One 10th grader contends that Simmons' main mission is college for everybody. "We want her back," 16-year-old Kirsis Betances from the Bronx told the Daily News. "She showed she cared for everyone. ...I told my daddy I'm leaving the school if she's not there, and my daddy agrees with me."
Apparently when interrogated by school officials, the former lovers could not even agree on how long they actually dated. Jones also contended that the couple parted ways, after she vacationed with another woman in July of last year.
After the couple broke up last year in September, Jones claimed that Simmons maintained a log about her job performance. It got nasty between the two women when Simmons gave Jones a bad review in June, then asked her to resign. Jones insisted that Simmons had it in for her. On the other hand, Simmons claims that Jones deserved the evaluation she received because she had become derelict in performing her duties.
Reportedly, an investigative report revealed that Jones admitted to staffer Chante Alexander that she would kill the principal if she got fired. Alexander recounted Jones told her "it was easy to purchase a gun down South" and that her father "had already purchased one," the report read.
Jones refuted Alexander's claims and told investigators she was only joking about the entire matter and that she was actually comparing her situation with Simmons to an article involving a female corrections officer who gunned down her lover.
Apparently, the couple's trysts were not kept as tightly under wraps as they thought. One former teacher, Daniel Ryan, 50, said the pair's affair was well-known:
"Everybody knew they were an item for a long time," he admitted.
Jones has been temporarily transferred to the High School for Law and Public Safety in Queens, serving as a teacher because she lacked tenure as an assistant principal.
Simmons will begin her job transfer at another yet-unnamed school as an assistant principal because she lacked tenure as a principal. The educator, who was held in such high regard by her students and who was often referred to as a "second mother," is now, along with Jones, awaiting the outcome of a disciplinary process.

Why was it necessary to describe as a "lesbian fling"? It's not like this occurrence is germane to the lesbian community. Would you call it a "heterosexual fling" if this had occurred between a man and a woman (like it does often enough)? Just curious about the sensationalism in the title. I guess it did its job because it got me to read the article...

An amoral act was done doing school hours and at school, the two lesbians should be outed and also charged with a crime for having sex on government property. This woman confessed she had sex at the school. Burn them both--fired. Remember, the Tiger Wood drama?

Heterosexual or gay, they were fraternizing. It's never a smart idea to screw a co-worker, because your dirty laundry gets flaunted and ruins your career. I have never slept with a co-worker and if the opportunity surmised, we would just have to put off any action until he or I found another job. This worthwhile precaution avoids b*llsh*t like what these women put themselves through.

Well, which ever. The fact of the matter is their error was, they brought it into the school,a BIG no no! Your private life is your private life. This matter should have been kept and handle by those two the same as done at a place of employment. You treat like your coat and hat "leave it at the timeclock when you punch in,and take them with you when you go home"!

I agree wholeheartedly. But I also add that this point extends to no matter who it was involved in the affair.
To the anonymous commenter, I know that's what it was (duh) but I'm sure if it was between a man and a women, there wouldn't be a headline stating "Two Harlem School Administrators Face Firing Due to Heterosexual Fling Gone Bad." The writer knew what she was doing by adding extra emphasis by adding that it was a lesbian affair...

NO epifanne, I DONT AGREE AND I DON'T KNOW WHY IT IS THAT LESBIANS ALWAYS GET SO DAMN OFFENDED WHEN SOMEBODY CALLS THEM WHAT THEY ARE AND SHOWS UP THEIR BAD BEHAVIOR. IF THIS HAD BEEN A MAN AND A WOMEN AND IT WAS STATED THEY WERE HAVING AN AFFAIR WHAT WOULD THE DIFFERENCE HAVE BEEN OR EVEN TWO MEN. WHY DO WOMEN THINK THEY ARE SUPPOSE THE GET SPECIAL TREATMENT?

@ Clarke...OMG, I can't believe I'm saying this, because we always have opposing points of view, but I agree with you on this one.
It was two lesbians, they had a fling...hence the 'lesbian fling'. They should both be terminated, has they would be if it were a man and a woman.
But for the most part, my concern is that it happened in the school during school hours, if she cared about the kids at all, she wouldn't have brought that into the school.
She put the kids in harm's way, I say that because if the Asst Principle threatened to kill her, she could have come into the school and started shooting causing innocent kids to get hurt.
