Given that the Stand Campaign seems to target quite a few young people, I'd have to argue that Long was right not to attend. It's not to say that he shouldn't be invited to participate, but the numerous lawsuits against him would make him a terrible distraction for an event that seems to contain so much positive energy.
The sex scandal against Long continues to exist as the silent cloud over the head of a powerful pastor. With each passing Sunday, the number of headlines about Long seem to decline. Far fewer Americans are wondering about the status of the negotiations than there were when he was first accused of sexual coercion by the four young men who once attended his church.
Given that America has such a short memory, I wonder whether there is a possibility that Long can refurbish his tortured image. What leads me to believe this is possible? Well, it's actually Toyota.
I was in the parking lot of Wal-Mart with my daughter today and I saw a really nice, shiny Toyota truck. I then realized that just a few months ago, Toyotas were considered by many to be the maker of the most dangerous cars in America. One scandal after another hit the media showing that the design of Toyota cars and trucks was faulty, leading to embarrassing congressional hearings and the scorn of the American public.
When I mentioned Toyota's negative publicity to my daughter, she barely knew what I was talking about. All she knew was that the Toyota in front of us was shining and appeared to be safe. In just a few short months, the world almost seems to think that Toyota is just another company.
Given that other brands are able to recover so quickly, I seriously wonder if the brand of Eddie Long can make an equally quick recovery. Members of the church are very forgiving, and some members are so loyal to Long that he could have had sex on tape without them believing that he actually did it. So, I have no doubt that no matter what the outcome of Bishop Eddie Long's situation, there will be some members of his church who support him.

Biship Eddie long has not been to any of our meetings. Do you know him personally? If so, let's talk about raising some passive income for your church. I've heard great things about New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.

I distinctly remember reading in an article that Bishop Long said he would not attend the "Stand" event because he did not want to be a distraction.
Give this story a rest. From what I understand members are still coming to the church. LET THE CHURCH HANDLE IT'S BUSINESS!!

This so-called preacher engaged in homosexuality with boys that he ministered, runs his church like a dictator and you say give it a rest?? This so-called preacher is a pervert(given that the Black Church condemns homosexuality) and should remove himself from the pulpit. Forgiveness? Let him deal with his God. He seeks and has received your monies while using God as a business venture. Pimping in the name of the Lord!

For those wicked pastors not teaching the people God's Word: Jeremiah 23:11-: the false preachers are profane; therefore their way will be made slippery: for I will bring evil upon them. I have seen stupidity in the (false) preachers/pastors. they teach in Baal (demonic influence) and cause my people to sin. I have seen also in them an horrible thing: they commit adultery, walk in lies and strengthen the hands of evildoers, that none return from his/her wickedness: they are all of them to me as Sodom, and the inhabitants as Gomorrah. Do not listen to, or obey the words of the false preachers: they make you sinful, speaking visions of their own heart and not the Lord. They say to those who despise me, the Lord has said you will have peace; and they say to every one that walks after the imagination of his own heart, no evil will come upon you. Yet, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it will fall grievously upon the head of the wicked."

Dr. Watkins, don't throw your towel into the ring yet. I don't believe that African American's have a short memory on this issue. This isn't the same as Toyota cars!
WE have no control over when and if the media choses to cover this story or any other story. The media makes those decisions just as you do on this site!
I bet folks are waiting to see if justice will be served on behalf of the children and their families. Unfortunately, the wheels of justice are slow (calendars at the courts are full) and we just have to take a wait and see attitude.
As far as Mr. Long being a no-show, did the right thing for once. The movement need not be tainted by the dark cloud that he has right now.
Hopefully he will be as considerate of the congregation at New Birth, step aside and let a truly moral leader take charge.

He is a refection of a false terhacher and the moral decandence within the Cjhristian church - especially in Black America. Sadly, race trumps grace and bling trumps humility.

From the start,my position has been that my pastor should step down...........period.As a minister myself,if I become a stubbling block to those I am called to serve, then I must step down and no one should have to ask nor demand I do so.Please let us all GB2B (get back to basics)love God....love one another and that includes holding one another accountable.
