Attorneys in the DeKalb County courtroom gathered for both sides to determine the status of the case. A tentative trial date has been set for July 11, 2011. There will be mediation before that time, set to take place in February.
Anthony Flagg, Maurice Robinson, Jamal Parris, and Spenser LaGrande are arguing that Bishop Long used his influence over them to coerce them into sexual relationships. They claim that the relationships took place during their teen years, and that inappropriate contact occurred during some of their trips together. Long's church, the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, hasn't argued for Long's innocence or guilt. Instead, they've simply acknowledged that Long did share hotel rooms with some of the young men and that they did take trips together.
Long's case is further complicated by the fact that he has preached against homosexuality for a very long time. In fact, his anti-gay marriage campaign was one of the cornerstones of his ministry. The black community's response to Bishop Long's allegations has been mixed, with some people supporting him and some arguing that he is a hypocrite. To date, Long has not specifically stated that he is completely innocent. A consistent denial of the stories being told by the young men would put Long in an awkward spot if it is proven that he did indeed have an extramarital affair with any of the men in his church.
Long's allegations of hypocrisy are also quite telling in light of the some other things going on around the country. Pastor Cedric Miller of New Jersey was found to have had a four-way affair with his wife and male assistant after condemning his congregation for using Facebook. Bishop Steven Arnold in Little Rock, Arkansas was asked to resign after it was revealed that he'd had an affair with the wife of a young man he was mentoring. It seems that 2010 has become the year of exposing corrupt pastors in African American churches, so perhaps this represents a new day in the black church community.
While we don't know what's going on in every church across America, we do know that what's been unearthed is probably the tip of the iceberg. Many of us in the African American community know of the pastor who sleeps with a slew of young women, young men or even young children in the church. I am an advocate of the New York City campaign against terrorism, which says "If you see something, say something." So, rather than sitting idly by as some of our spiritual leaders engage in egregious abuses of power, it's important that we open our mouths.
All the while, it must be remembered that not every pastor is corrupt or sexually irresponsible. Also, most of us make mistakes or bad choices in our lives and pastors are no different. While our human short-comings can't be used as excuses for socially-deviant behavior, we can't write off the good works of seasoned pastors just because their flaws are exposed. I will always be convinced that Bishop Eddie Long has done some good things for others in his life, and that is why so many people still support him. But even if he turns out to be a good man who made some bad decisions, he must be held accountable like the rest of us. Perhaps he will get his day in court and his congregation will get the truth that they deserve, but deep down, I sincerely doubt it.

It is not possible to discern exactly what happened here. Let it suffice to say that Preachers along with any and all public figures, especially those who supposedly travel the high road, keep from even the apppearance of inappropiate situations. Preachers/leaders of this stature have absolutely no business sharing a hotel room, or sending pictures of themselves posing (clothed) to ANYONE except their spouses. The truth will never be known...for sure...unless Pastor Long chooses to confess. IF he is guilty of the accusations, he will answer for his sins someday and to a much higher authority than any court system on earth. His extremely lavish lifestyle leads many true and Bible savvy Christians to seriously doubt the sincerity of his ministry anyway.

Looks like the attorney's will work out a settlement, and the case won't make it to court! The fact that Eddie Long's team is even considering mediation 'suggests' that there is material that they'd like the public not to hear. Why would an innocent woman/man pay someone or mediate a case IF they were innocent! If I were falsly accused, i'd shout it so loud until Sarah Palin would here it in Alaska! Not a day would pass that I wouldn't openly defend myself. One has to wonder what actually occurred with Long and the boys that has left him silent. Isn't he the preacher that is well known for "WATCH THIS!"..I have never got the impression that Eddie Long was short of words, but 'something' not so good took place with him and those kids that resulted in his silence.
Acutally a settlement out of court might be the best thing for the young men. It might save them and their families from having to relieve the horrible details of the abuse. I can't imagine having them sit there in court and being asked to describe every sorted detail of their intimate interactions with Long. Long's attorneys will not be kind to them and may turn things around, revictimizing the victims. So, we'll see if this goes to the courts or whether there is a settlement with a confidentiality clause requiring silence. I'm sure that payments will be delivered over a period of time to ensure that no one will speak!

It's really ashamed how some people in the world 2day are so quick 2 pass so much judgment and condemn this pastor. If people stop and think befor they just assume the worst. We the public only know what these boys and the media has put out. The people feel that he has to be guilty because he hasn't came out and said he's not guilty so that makes him guilty. Well when your a child of God and living by God's word you don't have to worry about trying to convince people that your not guilty there is no explanations need because God will let the come out. I'm sure that people would have something to say had the pastor been all in the media every chance/min trying to say he didn't do any of that, the public would prob say "Oh yea he guilty because he trying to hard 2 convince every1 to hard to believe his so you know he did it. Have people stopped and thought these boys who have made these claims were 17&18yrs when it happend.I don't care who or what title a man may hold if your trying to touch, kiss, have sex or whatever w/me other boy/girls that age it's gone be a battle2 try and get me2 do any of those things to me or that person,Not only that why is it that they didn't file charges or let some1 know when it happened because it's not like they are young children that would be scared to tell an adult. Because 17/18 they were daum near adults then. Why is it that society talk about how Black men in the world 2day don't take time out or want to guide the young black men/youth and they grow up like a wild weed robbing and killing joining gangs, Now here is this well respected pastor a Black Man that has is there like a father fig in their life and trying to keep them on the right path in life. The pastor has talked and mentored many young women and men but because the pastor has taken them on trips that w/others from his church gone on trips and spends time talking and trying to guide them in the right path of live 2grow up and be responsible so that makes him guilty. Did people ever think they want money because wasn't one of the things that1 one of they boys said because he told the pastor would make time2 talk to him about this situation he was going to come out to the media he prob thought if he told the pastor that he would just offer him some$$$ now don't you think that had he knew that he was guilty of these claims he would want to keep it under raps because he is a Pastor and that's not what he wouldn't want his family, public or his church congregation to hear. that also goes for the so called pic that is floating around out there that the pastor supposedly have sent to the boys i really don't think that either because he wouldn't want those pic out floating amongst the public. I mean come on people quit wanting to be so quick to pass judgments on an issues that we all on know what the media and these boys are putting out there that doesn't make it automatically true. And if it happens to come out that he did do all or some of the things that is being claimed who are we to pass judgment None of us are God. God is the only 1 that the pastor or any1 has to give an explanation to. May God have mercy on these boys soul if they have lied on 1of God's helpers, that goes for the Pastor also May God have mercy on his soul if he has done the things that have been claimed against him.

"licked his lips to sleep"? (quote as per court documents) Who can make something like that up? I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that one.

None so blind as those who WILL NOT SEE.
Long is as guilty as they come, why do people fail to see this? Because they cannot admit they have been duped by a so-called man of the cloth. As with most religion, this guy found a racket in which he could finance his lavish lifestyle by preying not only upon young men, but the 'flock' of parishioners to buy his Bentleys and Mercedes for him.

Damn if it takes you that long of an explaination to make your point that Long is not guilty you must have had your lips licked and brain fried. Keep going there and pay your tides so he can continue molesting young men.
