Police investigators have discovered that the Tallahassee, Fla., mom, who was brutally murdered along with her three children, was in a courtroom only four days earlier seeking child support for her set of 6-year-old twins.
The 27-year-old slain Brandi Peters and her children, twins Tamiyah and Taniyah Peters (pictured above) and 3-year-old son Jovante Segura, were found dead in their home Saturday morning.
Tallahassee police are working overtime to piece together the crime, which has left an entire community baffled.
Reportedly, investigators stumbled upon some information regarding Peters' whereabouts last Tuesday: The single mom was in family court signing a child-support order. The father of her twins, Antonio L. Anthony, 44, was obligated by the courts to pay Peters $307 per month, plus a retroactive support payment of $22,925. Peters also took Henry Segura Jr., the dad of the youngest boy, to court last summer and was granted $744.47 per month for her son and $20,100 in retroactive child support monies.
So far, there are no suspects in the homicide deaths. Police are questioning the fathers of the children -- Anthony, who has a long criminal rap sheet, and Segura.
Anthony was released from prison last year in May, after serving four years on two counts of cocaine possession and grand theft of a motor vehicle. The handgun-tattooed dad, who has served three prison terms over the last 20 years, has also been charged in the past with aggravated assault with a weapon and armed burglary.
Ironically, Peters also had a criminal past. She was placed on probation for a year after pleading no contest to simple battery in exchange for a reduction from aggravated battery. Peters was also placed on community supervision for two years for aggravated assault with a weapon and grand theft.
In 2005, the Department of Children and Families received a call by someone who claimed that the Peters' home was "unsafe," but the case was closed soon after. Case investigators did not find evidence of any wrongdoing in the Peters household.
Segura, who does not have a criminal past but who did deny fathering Peter's son Jovante, requested a paternity test last July. Apparently, he petitioned the court for a test because of a dubious voice mail that was left for him by Peters:
"In the message she stated that I was stupid for signing a birth certificate for a child that was not even mine," Segura wrote. However, his petition was denied because the administrative order states the child's paternity was "legally established by affidavit or voluntary acknowledgment."
Meanwhile, the long arm of the law continues to investigate what has been categorized as "one of the most gruesome murder cases." Police are asking anyone with information about this crime to please contact the Tallahassee Police Department at 850-891-4200.

If you reduce this to an issue of the media created term "deadbeat", then you did not read the entire article. i wondered when the blame game would begin. First of all it is truly a tragedy and I am praying for their families. Next, it never ceases to amaze me...This woman and the father of her children both had criminal records. 2)Dcf dropped the ball with their "unfounded" conclusion, after being given a heads up about the conditions under which these children were living. 3) This woman is alleged to have left a voicemail for another gentleman referring to him as an idiot for "signing a birth certificate when he wasnt the father of her third child". Which means there is possibly another man whose opportunity for fatherhood may have been taken away from him. But all we can focus on is Child support? We have to stop using our children to punish men and absolving ourselves as women of responsibility. Sistas if we continue to lay with men without bc or taking responsibility for contraception, and something happens...if we make the unilateral decision to have a child and dont include men in a decison that can impact his life as well but demand his participation financially, why are we surprised they "walk". As the generations become more and more entitled and continue to make poorer decisions the black family will continue to deteriorate. I dont know all the facts, but per the article there was a lot going on that begns with the fact that some people just dont need to bring children into the world. CS will be the end of our community as it emphasizes financial obligation while at the same time displaying little interest in parental involvement. Making it all about child support is such a distraction to the real issues with this picture

[[ it's just money? Just money? I tell you what, would you marry a MAN that has a child or two? Now, after your marriage should you go that far, your new husband gets an order from the family court that his $300 a month would now be increased to $600 a month since he has gotten married and his wife's income must be included as additional income. Would you like the change based on your income? Is it really just $$$$$$? I any event I hope they don't find anything against these two men. I think if one of them did this horrible thing that he was forced by our corrupt legal system. I need to be on the jury in cases like this, as I can understand how laws and corruption in this country have led to this mess.

Im still sadden on the circumstances of these people and how they died but nothing beats the fact she brought these kids into a world with uncompetent fathers whom had potential to harm and walk away from his responsibilty a fathers role is to protect and serve his family. From the articles and other segments I have read about this, she clearly had motive to make someone mad Iam sure as a black woman we know whom we lay down with and breed with we clearly see the wrong in what is not right with him and we accept because thats what we feel we want and not knowing what we need for ourselves before its to late and wake up to relize he's not going to or ever be that father, husband, comforter to the soul we need we try to make them that person he needs to be for each his own. I grew up with both parents and had a clear understanding of the do's and don't but sometimes lust can over rule any thing instilled in a vision of him, black women wake up start loving yourselves if it takes walking away from gutter do so gutter only lasts in ones life until black women clean our own house it's easy don't walk around it theres more dirty areas in town but there are also a lot of clean parts to pick your mates wisely see his vision of a future and his likes women we need not be selfish consider him to surely you can tell if he going to meet you half way if not tell him see ya white women do it all the time if it is not nothing in it for them to insure theirs and their child or childrens future they get out before bullets fly, we should be the same way love ourself know our worth we are builders, backbones, caregivers for once we should believe that most of our men are broken you just can not repair internal wounds with a maybe ,I will think about it,duh uh, sluggish life style of the weak whom refuse to break our histroy of the black male feeling sorry for his self and the sentence they impose on themselves I seriously hope they catch this killer or killers with swift justice for I will be following this story.

I just think putting gold teeth on kids and adults is in the same category as braids on men and tattoos/brands all over the body topped off with jean that are belted at the quads - it gives that complete prison shoutout look. Remember, there needn't be any dental issues going on - it's a look they're after. She didn't have the instincts/gut to realize she was getting with a dangerous sociopath. And she did some serious provoking of these guys, oblivious to the danger she was putting herself and children into. Clueless people are victims waiting to happen and I feel sorry for the kids cause they went unprotected.
BTW, I'm discussing this case not all the others of whites, latinos, jews, asians, gays and women killing their loved ones. This particular device used by dumb people really annoys me.

Gold teeth as caps are cheaper than tooth-colored caps. Educate yourself before trying to belittle someone.

Alright Cooki - but I promise I wasn't trying to belittle. If anything I'm trying to emphasize or highlight this cautionary tale (so that others avoid making the same mistake.)
I'm 46 and I do understand younger black people have a different 'taste' than me with regard to fashion/music etc. I also think I know where they got that different sensibility - thru popular culture i.e. opportunistic capitalists who understand how to make $$ by appealing to the emotions of poor people i.e. "buy this stuff and you'll be cool and accepted". Designer jeans didn't even come out till late 1970s, so my generation didn't have alot of the distractions younger generations have to deal with. Rap burst on the scene appx 1980. Both, arguably nothing more than capitalist schemes. And prison chic is prison chic.
I want to help prevent us from 'setting ourselves up' for all kinds of hurtful experience.
