Two-year-old Masia Wright died after ingesting a lethal amount of the drug methadone from his sippy cup. Investigators in Jacksonville, Fla., say that the toddler managed to get his hands on a sippy cup with methadone after his dad's girlfriend, Dana Anderson, left it on top of her four-foot-tall dresser.
The child's father, Ernest Wright, insists that Anderson could have never harmed the toddler intentionally. The grieving dad spoke to WJXT-TV about the tragic accident, "I just want everybody to know it was an accident she would never do nothing like that." Wright claims that his girlfriend treated his son as if he were one of her own children.
Methadone is used as a pain reliever and is often given as part of a drug-addiction detoxification and maintenance program. According to police reports, the amount of the drug, 80 milligrams, that was discovered in the toddler's sippy cup was four times the recommended daily dose for an adult.
Reportedly, Anderson has had prior arrests and some were drug related.
Anderson, who admitted to police investigators that she left the fatal substance in the sippy cup, was charged with aggravated manslaughter.
Bail for Anderson is set at $1 million.

How could the father believe that his girlfriend would no do something like this, it is sad that he lost his child due to a carless mistake his girlfriend made. I just do not understand why she would even put drugs inside a Sippy cup and place it in arms reach of the child, she should have known that the child could or probably get the cup and drink from it.
Just does not make any sense.

When you bring a drug user into your inner circle, you should be prepared to live with the consequences. No tolerance, no excuses.

Why on earth, would methadone be in a childs "sippy cup"? Especially with a toddler in the house. It seems less like an accident, and more like removing an impediment...

I am really apalled at the fact that the father does not think this woman was capable of doing such a thing. There is no reliable reason for the methadone to have been in a "sippy cup". This cup belonged to the child, and if any of you have children, you would understand how children are "obsessed" with sippy cups. This child would have climbed a mountain to get to his sippy cup. I am so sorry this happened to this family but we all have to beware of the people we allow around our babies but they are pure evil and we can not see it. My prayers are with the extended family and this trusting father.

Typical carelessness of a drug addict. A sippy cup? Addicts are selfish, unfeeling and in other words just do not give a damn about anyone else. Her mind was no where on that child because she spends her days chasing "taking off the edge." 80 milligrams was probably her abusing the drug that is supposed to be helping her to kick the habit.
