It seems the bounty keeps growing higher for racial and cultural insensitivity.
ForDon Imus, a clause in his contract saying he was hired by CBS for "irreverent" and "controversial" programming won him a lawsuit against his former employer and a new gig at FOX, a multi-year deal, where he earns more than ever, on the backs of teenage girls -- stand-out basketball players and scholars -- who were reduced to nappy-headed prostitutes.
Juan Williams' fear of turbans and hijabs lost him respect with intellectuals at NPR, but won him top dollars over at FOX News.
And now, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who spilled more N-words in five minutes than sympathy fans at a Bristol Palin dance-off, has scored a contract with Sirius XM to conduct a daily 3-hour radio show. The terms of her contract have not been disclosed, but you can bet your bottom dollar she's not losing sleep over her black friends she lost after her rant.
This is a new climate in media altogether. Where Tea Party organizers without a focused platform, other than "taking back our country," are given legitimacy by continued coverage, celebrity weddings and gossip are the top stories on morning national news coverage, and a hip-hop star feuds with a past president about semantics rather than his bungled effort, or lack of effort, in saving lives in one of the country's most devastating disasters.
Didn't anyone listen and learn from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity?" It's a shame when two sardonic comedians are the best source of hard news in this country.
16-Nov-10 - Forty-five years after he was killed by an Alabama State Trooper, Jimmie Lee Jackson, whose death lead to the first civil rights march on Selma, he is finally getting a small measure of justice.
12-Nov-10 - In a case better suited for Judge Mathis, Paula Cook is proceeding with her civil suit against Fantasia Barrino for an antiquated legal cause of action called "Alienation of Affection" in a North Carolina court.
All these white racist on radio and TV being called "conservatives" instead of the racist that they are. The irony is that many are Jewish. These are people who are quick to talk about their own struggles but have little or no sensitivity to anyone else's.
Laura Schlessinger, Rush Limbaugh, Don Imus, Michael Savage etc the list goes on... IMO they flourish because no one wants to accuse a Jew of being a racist. I think that's the main reason this stuff goes unchecked and they continue to find work on the airwaves.
As far as Jon Stewart is concerned, I think he gets a lot of positive publicity as the great white liberal voice to counter balance all the racist hate that Jews openly spew in the media towards racial minorities.
I think it is a fear factor, when jews first came to this country they were discriminated against, like the irish because of the accent like so many who came to the new world but as the years went on they fitted in, but because of our skin color we unfortunately will never fit in regardless how much we try, they will always see our skin color first, we are just easy pickings.
"david, you're a racist yourself, you hypocrite. you're responding to some idiotic racism about Blacks with some idiotic racism about Jews" genius"
You just proved my point teabag idiot. To this day NO ONE dare call Jews out for their racist HYPOCRISY. Instead teabag racist like yourself call out black people who are victims of racist media attacks by a Jewish Klan like Laura Schlessinger,Rush Limbaugh, Don Imus, Michael Savage etc.
At one time ALL the major film studios, the 3 major TV networks and many of the most influential newspapers were owned by Jews. Black people and other people of color were portrayed in the worst imaginable racist light by these powerful media institutions.
Are you and other teabag racist running out of screen names to use??
You can cry and get all offended about other people using that stupid word if you want to. Those people are all about a hustle. Here's the scenario: Make news by calling Katie a fat girl, then let her get kissed by a charming dude and the furor subsides. Katie feels good. The offender may lose a few dollars but will get another gig. Why? because you can stir the pot without necessarily being the cook. One just needs to walk up to the stove and know how high to turn the fire. My people are too emotional for a stupid word. Why claim such an emotional connection to a two syllable negative word? I could understand if she, as a financial advice guru advised us black folk to never spend our money on things that would give us a return on our investments or open businesses or sit on boards which control banks, etc. She used a stupid word and folk cry like little kids over a scraped knee. Or perhaps as a education czar she encouraged black kids to disregard english grammar and composition and supplant it with ebonics. Or, as a nationally recognized health expert, she advised us to consume a poor diet and never exercise. No, no, no. She simply repeated a stupid word. I do not get the uproar.
You do not get the uproar because you don't want to. This is evil and no matter how big and powerful it gets displayed you must recognize it for what it is. That how you get over it. Not with denial
Actually, you're right. I don't want to get the uproar. My energy is better spent counseling a young black child on ways to plot a course for a healthy happy life. Regarding the nword, it's a word. That's all it is, a word. It's wasted energy on someone who couldn't control the destiny of Black America even if she wanted to. So what if it's evil. There are issues far more relevant in our community than Dr. Laura's ramblings. She's happy, she's educated, she's rich and she's laughing all the way to the bank because she got a gig where she's basically untouchable and can say what she wants. You and I have more power to influence the minds of our future generation that the cantankerous old lady could ever have. She has no experience being black so her opinion means nothing, evil or otherwise. We are about as sensitive to that word as the stock market is to statements or actions by businesses, countries or world leaders. I said I don't get it and I explained why. I never said anything about getting over anything. The anger is simply misdirected and should really focus on blood splatter in our communities, rape, drug and alcohol addiction, homelessness, hunger, mental illness, dispair, illiteracy, health concerns, the poverty mindset, etc. Did Dr. Laura's comment contribute to any of those issues? Does she authorize bullet-proofed high fee check cashing stores, filthy flea market gas stations, unhealthy and unsanitary urban food establishments, academically bankrupt school systems, or lazy and self-serving legislators? Again, the issue is not Dr. Laura or the evil that you mention. When we decide to stop wearing the coat emboldened with the nword logo and resurrect the pride of our blackness, we stand to ensure a better future for our people.
