In Nevada, the Latino community is talking big about political change. Members are looking the
Democratic Party square in the eye and letting politicians know that they may be jumping ship. More specifically, Hispanic leadership is discussing the possibility of creating a grassroots movement, tentatively called "
The Tequila Party," designed to ensure that their interests are put in the forefront of political discussion.
Part of the resentment of Latino voters in Nevada stems from Sen.
Harry Reid's promise to push for the
DREAM Act, which would allow young people brought in to the country illegally to gain citizenship by either serving in the military or going to college. Since that time, both Democratic and Republican support for the bill has diminished, and Reid has not been able to keep his promise.
Some Latino voters are openly admitting that their source of inspiration was the
Tea Party Movement, which gained traction across the United States. Tea Party members also supported tough legislation in Arizona that affected the lives of countless Hispanic citizens in the state.
This led some Latino leaders to acknowledge that something should be done to counter the Tea Partiers and its aggressive agenda. One of the most important initiatives of Latino political involvement is comprehensive immigration reform. To date, roughly 85 percent of Hispanics support such measures.
One of the great tests for the Democratic Party is whether it can deliver on comprehensive immigration reform. If they do not, some believe that this will make Latino voters even more steadfast about creating their own party.
Hispanics currently make up 16 percent of the U.S. population. They are, therefore, the largest ethnic minority in this country -- and the owners of significant political power.
Also true is that if they are able to legalize many of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States, this would further bolster their impressive political might. Roughly 80 percent of all illegal immigrants in the United States are believed to come from Latin American countries, with 60 percent coming from Mexico.
African Americans would be wise to take notes from these discussions within the Latino community. Black people have been long frustrated by the fact that Democrats have failed to deliver for our community for a very long time. We are typically taken for granted as Democratic voters, and our issues are pushed to the back burner.
Rather than simply trying to emulate the work being done in the Tea Party Movement, we might be wise to at least consider joining forces with the Hispanic community to find ways to promote our common interests.
Oh, yeah, I hope they change the name from Tequila Party to something else. The last thing we need to do is promote another stereotype. The serious nature of major political movements should preclude us from naming a political party after an alcoholic beverage.

Robert I wish you all the best. But you WILL be all alone. And what exactly has hispanics done to assist or to supports Black people. Not a darn thing. Whenever there is a crisis, police brutality, blatant racism against an African American, you never see Latino leaders, or citizens out to support and denounce it. Heck, even white people come out to support African Americans against injustices. But Black leaders go to bat for Latinos all the time, and minorities all together. So let them have their Taquila party, I wish them all the best. But we won't be supporting it.

Unlike Negroes who went around crying about the racism in the tea party, Latinos actually learned from the success of the tea party.
I mean you really have to give it to them, they have told the Democratic Party, “That We (Latinos) Will Not Be Taken For Granted. Now why would they say such a thing? What have they learned in a short time, that Negores still havent learned.
Latinos know that they themselves are thier best option "NOT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY". They dont need to partner with Black folk, why tie an anchor around your own neck.
A partnership will not work, our agendas are different and do not cohabitate well. They are about the "Latino Agenda". Plus they dont need the black vote, they have or soon will have the numbers to force their agenda, see Californa and Neveda. Lastly why partner with a group that cant even help themselves.
Democrats could not win with out the Black Vote, so didnt it make since to leverage that into something other than handouts. Democrats havent won the white vote since the 60's. So the power "was" there, now its eroding fast. And negroes are still crying about injustice, social justice, racism, the same shyt since the 1960's
Now the landscape is changing fast, and true to form, Negroes are the last to respond to the change political environment.
Outside of a few isolated pockets, regarding national elections, democrats dont need the Black Vote. New York and Chicago are just about gone. California and Nevada proved that Democrats dont need negroes.
54% percent of black people live in the south, an even with those numberS negroes still couldnt deliver the south to obama, he won JUST 3 of 13 states. So how did he win? Dummies it damn sure wanst becuase uf u!
Regardless of what your being told, NEGROES DIDNT PUT OBAMA IN THE WHITE HOUSE!
Why do you think Democrats can make promises to Latinos (Immigration Reform), and not promise negroes anything? Their influence is increasing and Black decreasing. And you dummies still running around talking about Obama.
Latinos and tea party folks i aint made atcha.

And what exactly will they accomplish by forming their own party? It takes more than one party and one set of rules to have a political system in America. If these people were so smart and so on the ball and have so much to offer, why don't they return to their countries of birth and work to make that country liveable? I'm for deporting anyone who is in this country illegally. We should not have "little Ethiopia," Chinatown, Koreatown, "Little Tokyo," and then the Latins invading all of them taking over. Learn our culture, habits, laws, language and work with us for the common good of all races in this country.

I wish them well. Its funny how hispanics and blacks want to self segragate when it suits them and intergrate with whites when it suits them. Its ok to have a race based party as long as it is not white. Well dummys if you have a hispanic, then a black, then a asian party. Guess what? you will open the door for the white party! eventually this racial foolishness will bite you in your backsides.

The Tequila Party? I saw George Lopez making jokes about this, with himself as the candidate, and I thought, but who in the Tea Party is going to vote for him? The Tea Party's got something neither the Latinos or the blacks have - angry white males! They have long memories, and they are loyal to a fault. Good luck, mi amigos!

First it was the Tea Party. Now, there is a Latino Movement that's doing what Black Americans have failed to do. Wow. Black folk just don't get it. Warranted rebellion was once a part of the black DNA. Those days are over...We satisfied. The Latino population in the US are really on the move...politically! We wear Che t-shirts - but fail to follow his legacy!
