A publicity-seeking businessman in Wisconsin, who has a problem with black people, believes he has the right to serve and not serve whomever he wants.
So Mark Prior, who is planning to open a gentlemen's club in Abbotsford, Wis., has posted a "No Negroes Allowed" sign outside the site of his future store.
How many ways is Prior an idiot? Let me count the ways.
First of all, Prior doesn't even own an operating business on the site. At this point, it's just a vacant office building. That more than anything else shows Prior's true intention: to simply get a little publicity for his pointy-headed view on race.
Now back in the good ol' pre-Internet days before 24-hour news stations existed, Prior's little publicity stunt would affect only the few hundred people in his community. There might be a little protest, the local NAACP or ACLU might get involved, and that would be it.
But that was then. Now means that Prior will get coverage across news platforms on the Internet that will live on forever. For the rest of time, as we know it, news stories of Prior's sign will live on thanks to the Internet.
From there, Prior will likely draw the attention of a FOX or CNN reporter who will do a story and bring some national attention to tiny Abbotsford, Wisconsin, and its most infamous citizen.
Either way, civil rights law is pretty clear on Prior's gesture:
If he opens his business to the public, he will be breaking the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If he decides to make his club a private establishment, he might be able to discriminate. But with all the publicity that he has garnered, good luck trying to open that business and keep black people from entering.
I can only hope that this is the last time we ever hear of Mark Prior and his little racist sign.

If God had intended for the whole world to be one color I'm sure he would of already thought it out and made it happen. As a black woman I am not surprised by this type of behavior still continuing bet if a celebrity went to his club with a pocket full of money he would see $$'s rather then color! I'm confident his business will not survive...

I immediately told my sister-in-law who visits her sister there, be extremely cautious when bringing your full grown adult grandchildren to join the visit to their great-aunt. It is only fair that they know before they drive down or catch a train or plane and get off to grab a taxi, just what the lay of the land in these places which think they can return to the ways of the Southern Confederacy(The New York Times on-line, www.nytimes.com has an excellent article this past week on the Mapping of the Slave Population of the United States that shows very clearly which states were not very smitten with the idea and why others were beside themselves to obtain the maximum workforce because of the excellent growing conditions for wealth producing crops in particular, there in the agrarian South.

Kentucky has had some mysterious deaths occur in the very recent past, without the usual answers of why certain white men have been found hung; then there is the even more recent attack on a white woman who came to protest a Rand Paul Rally where he ignored that she was being attacked by some zealots of his guard, one of whon had decided he wanted to give her a head-stomping.
Now Abbotsford is another two states beyond and definitely the North under blizzard conditions today but I've never heard of the place before although I was raised along the shores of Lake Michigan and traveled back and forth and up and down the region in my childhood until I was adolescent enough to want to go some place more sophisticated. (and, less rationalizing about their bigotry!)
