Kind-Hearted Nature May Have Cost Victim His Life

One of the most depraved crime scenarios I have heard in a long time involves a kind-hearted giving man, Herbert Tracy White, who had found redemption and was killed -- dismembered beyond recognition, his limbs severed and stuffed in a backpack.

White had successfully gathered 15 years of sobriety under his belt and was eager to help others battling alcoholism, especially those who were dangerously on the cusp of turning back, facing homelessness, people on the street, or otherwise at-risk.

This giving nature often led him to dangerous areas. His family said, according to a Los Angeles Times article, that he would often leave family functions early to provide rides or help alcoholics in the middle of the night.
His wife said he left their Hollywood home early on November 28th after receiving a phone call from a person asking for a ride. Police suspect that the couple, Edward Garcia and Melissa Hope Garcia (pictured below), were looking to rob him before they murdered him in their hotel room. Police found his limbs in a backpack and the rest of his body found wrapped in a blanket under a bed in the hotel room.

The couple is still on the loose. They have criminal records in York, Pennsylvania, for robbery and drug charges, according to the Times.

White's brother said about his kind nature: "He would accept you first, then run your resume later. He was looking forward to being the sober driver for the holidays, and I believe that's what cost him his life."
