He stole the show at the New York gubernatorial debate but lost the election by a landslide. But to Jimmy McMillan, none of that matters. His slogan, "The Rent Too Damn High," touched a nerve with people across the country.
Now McMillan says he may come after President Barack Obama in 2012. That's right, the rent is not just too damn high in New York City.
"The rent too damn high party is pulling everybody together," McMillan said in an interview with Aol. BlackVoices. "If you pay mortgage, it's rent. If you buy food, that's rent. Rent is too damn high is like the body of a car and Jimmy McMillan is the engine."
Since his scene-stealing turn on the New York gubernatorial debate became an Internet sensation, McMillan has been spoofed on Saturday Night Live, recorded an album and had a doll made in his likeness. It may seem like an overnight success, but McMillan says it's not:
"I've been doing this for 16 years. For the last four elections I've seen this coming. I knew it was going to happen because each year I prayed that I would have a chance to touch people," McMillan said.
Now the calls are rolling in from all over.
"I was surprised that I got calls from all over the world. People in China and Canada have embraced me. I'm an American and I never thought about the rest of the world, but in 2012, I'm coming after the president's position if he don't step up."
McMillan said he's unhappy about the government bailout of Wall Street and the automobile industry while so many young people are being burdened by overwhelming student loan debt, which is just another form of rent in McMillan's mind:
"I'm not that dumb to not be able to figure out the math. If I have all this student loan debt, why has nothing been sent to me. We should waive every student loan for every student in America," Mcmillan said. "Don't take it personally, Barack Obama. I'm coming after you if you don't wake up."
Until election time rolls around, McMillan said he wants to have his own reality show. He already has the name and concept picked out: "Dinner with Jimmy McMillan."
Various guests would come on the show and chat with McMillan over the meal. They'd discuss current events:
"I just want to keep that going because people are laughing again and little kids were dressed like me for Halloween. I get calls from little kids wanting to hear me say, 'Rent is too damn high!' said Mcmillan. "As much as we are suffering, people are laughing again."
And maybe that's the level McMillan should keep it on. Running for president might be a waste of McMillan's time. Since he has made high rent and the cost of living his platform, he should set himself up to speak about these important issues on a regular basis, not just at election time.
And if McMillan can make people smile along the way, that's even better.

After listening to McMilan and I think he should be a cast member on SL and make guess appearences on television shows all over the world and cash in on his stance on " the rent is too damn high", and leave the running for President to the politicans.
If Palin can cash in on her lack of knowledge then why caan't he.
I don't think any one will give him an opportunity to make money, let's see what 2011 will bring him, but I am not holding my breath.

Politicians have done nothing for nobody except themselves.
I t is so sad how those who address the real issues are humored and slotted for a furte in entertainment while "politicians" are expected to have the experience needed for Presidency failed term, after failed term after failed term until our economic situation is like this with trouble ever deepening.
I hope some one other than a "politician" will run for Presidency and for once we will have a real leader and those who elect him not think that what McMillan brings to the public eye with people suffering unemployment, life losses is not something to just be laughed at. Nothing is going to change until we change.

If this man thinks he could run for President and could win.... he's somewhere other than earth in his mind. he's a joke and would be a good picture on an Uncle Bens Rice box.

I really think he's truthful in acts he displays but he has a comical look and feel about him, and truthfuly there is no difference in him and palin in behavior wise except he is a man and black and she is white and a women. I see him going far he has got a lot of hits on youtube so know that somebody is paying plenty attention as for any senate or office no he can not get there until he takes matters seriously but he is a future advocate for somethings I will be watching.

I am glad I took the time to read this article and learn of Jimmy McMillan, because it is about time someone tell the real truth of the status of this countries true politics. Although I supported our President in hopes that he would get to the bottom of what has created this chaos and break it down to the point that we can all recover and stop over spending on very people who run corporations, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies that have caused inflation and unemployment. I hope he continues to reach the masses and get the truth out to the people especially American born people.

Why is it so hard to envision Jimmy "Rent Is Too Damn High" McMillian running for President in 2012?
He's much smarter and has more common sense than Sarah Palin who has no political or higher education intellect whatsoever.

The reason it is so hard for people to take J. McMillan seriously is for the same reason we continue to have a succession of one incompetent POTUS after another. Humans are so superficial go by ones looks, wealth, material things owned by a person thinking that person is some god because they have these things--no matter how many times they are fooled and scammed and no matter how many more times further this country inches further into the abyss. There is actually a story like this in the Bible. It is so awful to watch. Well i guess thats why the racist D. Trump is being considered for 2012 as people are bedazzled by his wealth, skin color, blue eyes, rich white man no matter how much worse his hair style is, his cheating on Ivana.
People are afraid of a straight talking black man while of course the more rabid racists are terrified especially since a Black President has finally been elected. It may never occur to some people that there are those sick and tired of being taken for another ride by the rich and the "conservatives" such that J. McMillan becomes a new hope, while trying to stretch unemployment checks, and pay for inflated healthcare costs.
Donald T., the money man never had to sleep out in the streets to live and when his rent, this magnate real estate owner, ever too high?

Is someone actually taking this "rent is too high" guy seriously? I thought it was a "Saturday Night" show special when I first saw it. But then again, why not, he just may become our next President. Wouldn't that be fun?? If rent is too high, then food, etc. is too high too. Maybe he will have an answer to that also. Would be fun to find out. If nothing else, he makes us laugh.
