If you are the troubled type of person who enjoys the senselessly cruel entertainment provided by bull fighting or dogfights, I suggest you go to YouTube and check out the 'Dr. Phil' appearance by golden voice Ted Williams this week.
Yes, if you enjoy seeing living things suffer, this show is for you.
It's been tough enough watching Williams, homeless until becoming an Internet sensation thanks to his booming voice, bumble his way through interview after interview since fame tapped him on the shoulder.
And don't forget the creepy televised reunion with his mother in which Williams, 53, repeats the words "hi, mommy" like an addled child.
But watching Williams exposed on the 'Dr. Phil' show this week made me turn away.
I understand that to some folks, watching Williams confront his many personal demons with a television quack is like watching a car wreck or going to the freak show at the country fair. Sometimes, the odd, the uncomfortable and the unusual in life can be strangely compelling.
But watching Williams squirm while facing angry questioning from his kids was too much for me to take.
It seems inhumane to put this man on television and expose him to questions about his addictions and other problems that caused him to be homeless for almost 20 years.
I'm sure Dr. Phil didn't put a gun to Williams' head to appear on the show. Williams may, in fact, have even made a boatload of cash on the deal. But I'm here to say that in the long run, it won't be worth it.
With his long past of drug addiction, petty crime and general buffoonery, we know that decision-making is not Williams' strong suit. So if I have one wish for Williams, it is that he get a good advisor to help guide his thinking on future public appearances.
I mean who, in their right mind, suggested to him that going on national television with his bitterly estranged children so soon after achieving international fame was a good idea?
In fact, you can add a financial advisor, accountant and dentist to that list of folks that Williams should see before booking his next television appearance.
The only possible positive I've heard to come out of the "Dr. Phil" appearance is that Williams said he will check himself into a drug-alcohol rehab facility.
I'm sure it's not the first time Williams is trying to sober up. But with some hard work and a real desire for change, it just might work this time. If that happens, the shame and embarrassment Williams suffered on the show might be worthwhile.

While channel surfing I stopped on the Dr Phil cirus show. Dr Phil should not have placed his poor creature with his family on his show at least at this point.
Ted Williams, looked like caged animal, the circumstance of him being found may or may not be good for him. I wonder has he been examined by a doctor?
The company's that have hired him, should have waited until he got straight, at this point he should go into a hospital for his drug and alcohol addictions. These company's may have thought they were doing something good, but to much to soon is the case for this man.

Why should he go into rehab if he's been sober for 2 years? Obviously, he's managed to kick whatever addiction he had.

i think a lot of people felt the exposure came to quickly, as for dr phil,he should be as great as he thinks he is, twenty years of addiction and all the things that go with it, dr phil can make it all better in one hour. Ted has a beautiful voice and a good heart, i think he deserves time to come to terms with all these changes, good stress can kill too.

@Tom Whiting, are you really that stupid? This man has not been sober for two years, that fact was obvious to anyone that knew anything about Recovery or addiction that was looking at him. If he had been sober for two years why was he holding a sign on the street panhandeling for change? The answer, to buy a drink. Anyone in true recovery would/or should have resolved their homeless issue in two years.

Those of you that saw and observed that Ted wasn't ready for any of the interview's and job ofter's were right. He said yes because he liked the attention and he new he was getting money so he could buy liquor additionally, he doesn't need the same people around him be they family or old friend's he needs medical and addiction specialist.
It might be hard for some people to think that he was not telling the truth about being sober for two year's, but when I saw him I knew he was lying, that is what addict's do.
Addict's know what to say, they talk about God, being homeless this hug's at the heart's of some well meaning people and they make mistakes, by not recognizing a "snow job".
It's up to Ted to take the rope's that he has been handed, but it will take a long time.

I guess the dude has arrived in Hollywood then! He's having celebrity problems now :-) Be careful what you wish for. It seems his daughter's ready to cash out and sell her dad to the tabloids. Quite PITIFUL! Everyone loves Ted, why is his daughter being a gold digger? Cut the man some slack.

Here's why your comments make no sense at all Jen. The daughter did not contact the Dr.Phil show(1)(2)If Williams was not ready(and he clearly isn't) to deal with family issues, then why can't he use that "golden voice" and say so. Why are any of these people including Mr. Williams running around in "Hollywood" all up on TV in the first damn place? Who the hell is really profiting from all of this? This man needs to deal with his personal and family issues in private, BUT NOOOOOO, EVERBODY and I do mean EEEEEVVVVVRRRBODY, trying to get PAID. Now looking at the kind of father he has been I aint mad at JANEY, if she do sell HER life story, THE ABANDOND DAUGHTER OF TED "GOLDEN VOICE" WILLIAMS. If we so concerned about him how come that concern doesn't extend to his children?

I was not talking about Dr. Phil. The daughter has been on these entertainment shows like Insider, Entertainment tonite etc, talking trash and selling out her dad. It's quite ugly and pitiful.

SHE WASN'T "SELLING OUT" ANYBODY, SHE WAS TELLING THE TRUTH AND NOT GOING ALONG WITH THE LIE THAT MR. WILLIAMS AND THE REST OF THE FAMILY WAS TELLING. THAT IS A GOOD THING. IT IS BECAUSE OF HER THAT HER FATHER MIGHT NOW GET THE TRUE HELP THAT HE NEEDED ALL ALONG. SEE HOW BASS ACKWARDS SOME OF YOU PEOPLE THINK. "THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE" TRY IT SOMETIME.
