Get over your bad selves.
That's basically what former Senate Republican leader Bill Frist told his GOP compadres this week as they set about trying to dismantle the national health care reform law.
"It is not the bill that I would have drafted," he said during an appearance at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington. "But it is the law of the land and it is the platform, the fundamental platform, upon which all future efforts to make that system better, for that patient, for that family, will be based."
Frist's high-minded approach to health care reform stood in stark contrast to Republican members of the House of Representatives, who voted unanimously Wednesday to repeal the reform law and replace it with ... what?
That's still unclear, even though it's been 10 months since President Obama signed the legislation into law, and even though Republican candidates campaigned for much of last year on ending "Obamacare."
The repeal bill will now likely perish in the Democratic-controlled Senate, and in any case would almost certainly face a presidential veto if it miraculously made it that far. But House Republicans say they'll still obstruct the health care law by blocking funds to implement its provisions.
It's hard not to think of a bunch of spoiled children throwing a tantrum because they didn't get their way.
The health care reform law, while imperfect, is a done deal. The prudent thing to do at this point is to build on it rather than waste time with fruitless - and needlessly divisive - political grandstanding.
And the Republicans have outdone themselves for misinforming the American people about what the reform law will and will not do.
Conservatives might have ideological differences with some aspects of the reform law. Those differences should be respected.
But House Republicans have no business attempting to undermine a law just because they disagree with parts of it. It's as if Southern lawmakers had tried to block or repeal the Civil Rights Act after it became law in 1964.
They didn't because they had the maturity to accept the new status quo and move on. Today's Republicans should take a lesson from them.
As Frist said, health care reform is the law of the land. Deal with it. Work with it.
Grow up already.

What I don't understand is that the republicans had control for 8 years, why did'nt they come up with a health care plan, they were too busy bunning this country into the ground and linning their pockets.

@ ELDOHILL
THE REPUBLICANS NEVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT HEALTH CARE DURING THEIR 8 YEARS IN OFFICE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT IT.

Where are black voices getting these writers from? Explain to me how "the artist eason" can comment on a bill that nobody has even seen yet? Why comment on something that is a done deal? Obviously it is not a done deal! I don't know if the health care deal is good or not but I do know that anything that is done in secret behind the back of the people cannot be a good deal. If it were such a good deal it would be as tranparant as the the ten commandments and installed on two placts for all to hail. Alas it is not it is written with wordage that even scholars and professors cannot define correctly. I wonder if fools like kevn eason have ever had to go to a medical clinic for treatment? Or maybe Kevin can tell us what organization the government runs that doesn't fail or becomes corrupt?

For one thing the repubs did not have control for eight years, get your facts right! Who cares about the republicans. We are talking about the health care bill. The republicans are just the same as the democrats. They are no longer representing you and me. They represent their own interests. When the health care bill that we have includes the politicians than I will know that it is good until then it has a rotton smell!

Here we go again. It seemed since the demise of
Gabrielle Gifford that the Republicans were beginning to see the light including house speaker John Boehner. We would have thought that during that dark moment in this country's history that they would see the need for healthcare reform but it was a sham. So, here they(the republicans) go again. Creating problems with no solutions or alternatives. Taking care of the top 5% and practicing hypocrisy as usual.

Wake up even an drug addict knows that, Obama will have a pension with health benefits for life in less than 7 years of difficult work with the pimps in Washington DC. They call it a Con job, now who is the sucker, have a great week end, Monday go back to work please.
