The events took place at Markham elementary school but came to the principal's attention just this week when one of the students told a staff member about the events. Oakland school district spokesman Troy Flint said that the teacher was unaware of the incident.
"We believe the substance of the story is true," said Flint.
Counselors have been brought to the school to help the children to understand what happened and how to deal with their sexual curiosities. Flint admitted that the school district is embarrassed.
"We are striving to create schools as safe havens, where students can feel secure and trust in adult guidance," Flint said. "Obviously, that trust was violated in this incident, which was unacceptable. We're going to get to the bottom of this and make sure there's no recurrence. "
Just when you think you've seen everything, something like this happens. I am not quite sure what to say, other than what everyone reading this article is already thinking. Clearly, the teacher in the classroom is the first line of accountability in this terrible incident. After that, the school district, the city of Oakland and the school itself may be open to significant legal liability. I would be personally outraged as a parent if this kind of thing went on in front of my child, and I'm sure the parents in Oakland feel the same way.
There is then the broader question of where second graders are learning about things like oral sex. I knew nothing about this sort of thing when I was 7 years old. I don't even think I knew anything about regular sex, where babies came from or that there was no Santa Clause. One of the saddest things about this incident is that the innocence of our youth is something we should be allowed to have for at least a little while. One has to wonder what images the children are seeing on television, at home or with their friends that lead to this kind of behavior. Also, when you see hip-hop artists such as Lil Wayne rapping about having sex with every girl in the world, you quickly learn that the culprit is probably as close as your nearest electronic device. This incident should never have happened, and we all need to be more critical about the music and television shows presented to our kids.

I believe that the kids saw their parents doing this at home. Kids are innocent. Often it's bad parenting that ruins them.

Sounds like the kid(s) may have suffered child abuse prior to the incident.
Kids that young don't all of a sudden start going down on each other for no reason.
Sexual curiosity my ass!
There's a "chester the molester" story in their somewhere.

And the teacher watches and doesn't report it to the authority? maybe the authority is also corrupt and failing, what next you have to ask yourself children only copy what they see, who know's if these children are not being abused, they are so many nightmare and imoral things going on in america and yet we say it is a christian country were almost everyone goes to church on sunday, are these things being address in church, have they a credible child protection hotline for children in america?

I wouldn't say 'bad parenting'...I mean what if the child walked in on the parents? Have you ever walked in on your parents? I don't ever remember walking in on mine, but I do know to LOCK THE DOOR, while hubby an I are being intimate.
I want to hope that this is the case, I would hate to believe that the child sees this regularly in the home with other adults who are just being careless, then yeah... I would have to agree with bad parenting.
SheShe have you seen the video on youtube of the little girl just cussing up a storm and her father is taping her, and he thinks it is funny? The child is talking about some other little girl and every other word is a curse word. Sad...so very sad.

@Justifyed
Do you remember on BV there was a viral video out on YOU TUBE of these young 5 and up lil kids dancin INNAPROPRIATELY at some Birthday Party in the video? The kids were grinding, on top of each other, against the wall, you name it and the parents were clapping and encouraging them all to do some more. That video was DISGUSTING and DISTURBING! WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO? You don't know if those kids at that party in that YOU TUBE VIDEO are having ORAL SEX NOW or have they been abused or not? The parents in that video was cheering and encouraging those kids dancin. IT WAS DISTURBING smilin all in the video and being PROUD of what their lil SON or DAUGHTER DID? Somethin ain't RIGHT! that or anything that kids see on TV, Videos, Internet, MAGS, MUSIC, PARENTS in the act, or others, ECT.... can lead to THIS! The parents should monitor their children better BOTTOM LINE! In a SCHOOL? These kids knew what they were doing and wanted to see how far they could go and if they would get caught? The other kids in the classroom and the WHOLE SCHOOL should get counseling on this SERIOUS INCIDENT & know the consequences, dangers, and risk in having ANY TYPE OF SEX! I hope that these kids that were caught got some type of DISCIPLINE (at school and home) BIG TIME, COUNSLEING, so this ISH won't happen again!
In the article it says Lil Wayne's song "I wanna F every girl in the world" and is an influence on young youth. Yeah I had a problem with that because it was on the Award Show in almost a year and a half ago with lil girls dancing to that song INCLUDING LIL WAYNE'S OWN DAUGHTER, up there on stage rappin the OFFENSIVE, DESRESPECTFUL, and DEGRADING SONG to all woman and to all people! I still don't have RESPECT for him at ALL! I WAS UPSET and it was DISTURBING! Not only some in RAP but in all types of music, videos, tv shows, the web, SEX IS EVERYWHERE! RIGHT IN YOUE FACE and even commercials try to get away with showin in some way like it is nothing? But WE as parents have to make sure to teach our children and raise them right to not do those things and to monitor our children closely at home! Take your child to church get them to know the Lord, go to Bible Study ect.. Teach our kids about the risk and dangers of UNPROTECTED SEX if the child is promiscuous ect..
This should have never happened! I just pray that these children weren't abused physically are have any mental problems. So sad to hear this story. I don't know how long the Teacher walked in and then reported but hopefully, they will question, and make sure that everything was reported properly and accurately. This article has me ALL MESSED UP! I'm just SAYIN?

Times are changing and children are becoming exposed to so much at such a young age. I try to be honest with my chlld. When my kid was in elementary school he came home one day from the Christian school and asked me what was a pimp? I took a deep breath and nonchalantly told him. I could not believe my kid would ask me a question like this. I knew I had to be honest and answer and not give him the impression that questions of this nature was off limits. The key is to be honest with your kids and you raise them not the streets.

You are totally right on! These women put their kids in bed with them and truly believe that closed are sleep. Then again, you never know what channels are babysitting kids these days.

@alie - The teacher did NOT see the incident. It's not like the teacher was watching this mess. That's why the teacher got suspended. The children clearly were not being supervised properly.
There is a credible reporting system in place in the US. In fact, teachers are mandated reporters inside and outside the classroom. For example, if a teacher knows a neighbor is abusing their child, that teacher is obligated to report these suspicions whether or not the child is her student or not.
Usually where there is highly sexualized behavior in young children, it stems from abuse/neglect.
One of my mom's third graders brought his grandma's vibrator to school and threated girls with it. He was charged with 3rd degree sexual assault. The grandmother told my mom, "I told that boy about getting into my s--t!"
