Five people in Philadelphia have been arrested on narcotics charges, including a couple who used their own children as mules to transport their drugs.
A red flag was raised Tuesday evening when Rodney Saunders (above, pictured top right), 39, and Christopher Lewis (above, pictured top left), 29, were driving their rental vehicle without their headlights on.
When police spotted the men and pulled them over for a routine traffic stop, the officers smelled marijuana wafting from the car. After rummaging through the vehicle, the officers discovered 13 pounds of marijuana. The suspects were arrested.
Hours later, Saunders' wife Senya (above, pictured bottom left), 39, got wind of her husband's arrest. Thinking that police would eventually pay her a visit at home, she hurriedly stuffed the backpacks of her 10-year-old son and 9-year-old stepson with drugs in an attempt to get the remaining narcotics out of the residence.
According to Police Inspector Scott Small, the woman used the children as mere "drug mules." He described Senya's act as "pretty despicable, to say the least."
Little did Senya know that Philadelphia law enforcement had beaten her to the punch and already had the house under surveillance. Senya was also taken in to custody, along with her 19-year-old daughter Neiya Rawlerson (above, pictured top center).
Another woman, who was also implicated in the narcotics distribution ring and arrested and who happens to be a friend of Saunders, is police officer Somer Pugh (above, pictured bottom right), 33.
Police seized 20 pounds of marijuana in the case, which has a street value of about $90,000, as well as more than $10,000 in cash and a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Rodney and Senya Saunders are being held on $150,000 bail and are charged with criminal conspiracy, possession with the intent to deliver, and other related offenses. The three other accomplices were also charged.
The children were taken in to the custody by the Department of Human Services who are conducting their own investigation.
Clearly the Saunders are poor examples of parents for their children. When a parent places their child in a perilous situation, they can psycologically damage that human being for life. These types of parents usually produce toxic children, societal misfits. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that Saunders' offspring are resilient and can go on to become successful and productive citizens.

Dumb to the 10th power. Got caught driving at night with the headlights off and dipping into the stash. They might as well have just driven straight to the police station and turned themselves in. Now its a family affair. Oh...well. Not anymore. DHS is involved.

The irony is, we are blasting these people and calling them unfit parents. But we have a show on HBO called 'Weeds' about a single WHITE mother left alone with her children and no money, so she goes into the "Weed" business, and her kids, friends, and other associates are involved. She is even seen selling during her son's soccer games and on college campuses.
But it's celebrated in the white surburbs and blasted in the black communities...we are called unfit parents, but she is "trying to survive".

@Justifyed: I understand what your trying to say, and I am being for real! But One, you are comparing a Real Life situation to TV. That would be like me complaining that "Criminal Minds" shows criminals are 97% white! And if you read some different "news" sites you will find more than your fill of White's getting busted for Growing/selling Pot or Making Meth! So it's not like only blacks are busted for this or covered on articles. Yes on BV that may be true, but if you venture to say an Ohio or Kentucky News site you will get a different view. Not slamming you AT ALL, just showing you how some times sites can get you to see things they way THEY WANT YOU TOO!! PEACE!!

This article is bullsh*t, because a mule either injest the drug or have it planted on their bodies somewhere. They try to make it appear as though these people had their children walking around with drugs on them. Either way it's wrong but did they have to make it appear as though the children was actually involved?

@Jerome, first of all thank you for your constructive criticism, I appreciate that, and I, in no way felt as if you were slamming me.
I know I was comparing apples to oranges, it just bothers me...that's all. Also, I am not defending these fools one bit (at least I hope I didn't come across that way).
The BIGGEST fool is the police officer! There is no way I would have let friends or family use me and my position to do illegal activity.
I also agree that whatever state you view the news in, will have varying degrees of crime as well as the racial profile of the people who commit these crimes.
Here is southeast ga., the instances of meth related incidents far exceed those of any other drug and we know who does meth.
Anywho, they were wrong and they got caught.
@ Gichaya: 'Sometimes the goods are hidden in e.g. the bag or vehicle of an innocent person, who does not know about this, for the purpose of retrieving the goods elsewhere'
So in this case the kids were used as mules, the drugs don't necessarily have to me implanted or ingested, simply transported in a bad, or backpack in this case makes them mules.
I feel badly for the kids, I hope they are able to come out of this relatively unscathed.

Why is anyone surprised? This kind of nonsense is something that's been going on in the black communities for a long time! And, more parents then you think are doing just like these parents have been doing as well! But, then we continue to hear all the usual "blah blah blah" about drugs! This is exactly why there are so many drugs in the black community!

They just happen to be the one's that caught & they happen to be black, but they could have been any color. Educate yourself before you make comments like this.

This is SAD & DISGUSTING! Yeah, this was a family thing alright, that went BAD! Gettin the children ivolved in their scheme was just PLAIN WRONG! Just think, God forbid somethin went down at the house and the children were there caught in the middle of gettin shot, killed, or taken away? I hope CYF takes them away from these NO GOOD PEOPLE! I pray for the other two children that they don't follow in their parents footsteps!
I don't feel sorry what happens to these people? They all GET WHAT THEY DESERVE! I couldn't believe the only weapon that these people had was a 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun?
Wit all those drugs and money you would think they would have had AKA's, ect... or somethin?
DUMB DUMB DUMB!
