Most of you know about the case of Kelley Williams-Bolar. You also know that I've taken a personal interest in Kelley's case since we first hit the issue on Black Voices.
Kelley, in case you are unaware, was convicted of a felony after sending her children to a school district that was not her own. This case against a single Mother seeking a better educational situation for her kids set off a firestorm of international support.
I traveled to Akron yesterday to prepare for the rally on Kelley's behalf with Rev. Al Sharpton. When we arrived at the church, the parking lot was full, the news trucks were everywhere and police were on hand to control us "rabble-rousing black folks."
The National Action Network was responsible for creating the infrastructure for the rally, for which I was extremely appreciative. The community was particularly gracious in coming out to take a stand for educational equality, which I found to be quite impressive.
A glaring absence from the room was Ms. Williams-Bolar, but the issue is bigger than just one person. I honestly can't say why Kelley wasn't at the rally or why her attorneys advised her not to show up, but I hope it was for a good reason. I also hope that they will one day allow her to thank the citizens who came out in bad weather to support her case.
In my opinion, Kelley's done her part in the struggle, for this has never been about the integrity of Kelley Williams-Bolar or why she did what she did. The truth is that the symbolism behind her actions, as well as the consequences, inspired passion in millions who are concerned about the education problem in America.
The nitpicky details about what Kelley did and did not do, and the gossipy aspects of local politics were never of much concern to me. Also, I've never felt that there needed to be a face on this movement other than the faces of millions of children having their lives destroyed by inadequate public school systems.
I was at the scene for all the Mothers out there who want their kids to have access to schools that are as good as the ones in the suburbs. That was also, I suspect, why Rev. Sharpton was there too.
"I think this woman should be saluted, not arrested," Sharpton said at the podium. "This is an issue that everybody ought to get mad about. White, black, whatever."
Sharpton made the point that the Williams-Bolar case is similar to the concerns that drove African Americans to action in the 1960s. He mentioned that the issue is about equal education and equal protection.
In a very powerful speech, Rev. Sharpton laid out the groundwork for community action and also created a chapter of the National Action Network in the city, so that the organization could commit to further progress.
I spoke to the crowd as well and found that they were sick and tired of life as usual in Ohio. As outsiders to this town of hard-working people, our goal from the beginning was to use our experience and perspective to provide a vision, where the community's citizens could address the educational issues in their own state.
The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that the funding mechanism for public schools is unconstitutional, but rather than actually enforcing that ruling, they've simply continued to allow the futures of inner-city children to die a slow death.
I believe the rally was a complete success. While the local media may choose their own take on how things went down, those who were in attendance were clearly ready for change. I believe that this passion for a better life and the chance to make things right for their children will inspire Ohio citizens of all backgrounds to face up to their legislatures and create a path toward true equality.

Exactly, it never concerned you that she is a thief and liar, only that she's a Negro. She should be given the maximum penalty for theft and locked away as an example. I've written to the authorities demanding just that.

These so-called black leaders like Sharpton don't do "jack smack" except talk all the time, but if you ever notice they never have any viable solutions for anything! The real issue, and the obvious problem is "why" on earth do black people continue to prop these "do nothings" up? Or, even recognize them as being leaders when in both fact, and reality they continually fail to provide any real leadership? So, what does that tell you about black people? It was the same for Jesse Jackson as well, who was at the end of the day was only serving himself! The question continually begs to be ask again, again, and still now for the past fifty years ....why? It's clear as mud as to why black people aren't making, haven't made, nor will ever make the same kinds of progress, as do other races. They never will when they can't and apparently won't even be responsible to, and for themselves. The issues, and facts of this case weren't fully disclosed, and regardless of what was said the facts are still the facts! This lady willingly broke the law, and lied for over two years! And, if you knew the law for the state of Ohio, then you'd clearly understand why this lady was convicted by a jury of her peers, and received a felony! Before anyone comes here with the usual nonsense, and ignorance try better understanding both the scope of what this lady did, and also the law as it's applied in the state of Ohio! Emotions are only just that...emotions, but the law is the Law. There's an old saying that goes. "ignorance of the law is no excuse"! Most here are in fact ignorant of the statues of law, and only bring their emotions.

Will you savages ever learn?
This isn't about the "leaders" racism has inspired!
I't all about the nuances of America's racist institutions, in this case...our children's schools!
We're breaking down the walls of economic exploitation, and federal and state funds used to prop up extentions of white racism!
We will not stand by while racist whites use economically segregated school districts to red-line and suffocate our childrens education and aspirations just because their parents are made poor due to economic exploitation!
America used our public schools and tax dollars to offer night classes to teach english to illegals and they are welcomed to any school in America, undocumented! They even tried to keep this a secret!!!!!!!Besides refugee, you gave them JOBS TOO!!
We don't need leaders to understand your racist inspired rules and regulations!
If it's not privately funded, break the laws like the illegals are allowed to do, and send your child where you feel the curriculum is best!!!!!!!!
Just like "Little Rock", again!!!!

People should keep their kids in the district they live and pay taxes in PERIOD! Otherwise where would it end, there has to be structure.
I think certain people who I will call "instigators" have nothing better to do these days so they have to look for causes. You really aren't helping you are just making people ignore you when something worthy does happen.

I have already written plenty of how WRONG she was and the peepz who continue to support her. Once again Dr W targets some thing that was NOT even an issue. She tried to scam her way into the school because her apartment was broken into, NOT BECAUSE SHE WANTED A BETTER EDUCATION FOR THEM!! Lets get that straight.
She did not even show up??? OMG!!! I am just speechless how DrW tries to spin this fact! So Al wants to "keep his promise" to come and support HER and she doesn't even show up!! I can't be the only one that understands why her lawyer advised her to not show up and keep her yap shut, right??
MAINLY: Any one that knows my post knows that I have no love for the way Dr W has such a focus on Racism that it has Blinded him and that he is spreading that Hate to others! He makes that so very clear in one of his first lines:
When we arrived at the church, the parking lot was full, the news trucks were everywhere and police were on hand to control us "rabble-rousing black folks."
Police were there to "control" us?? This is how his racist mind thinks. Not that they were there to make sure that IF peepz who disagree with this entire BS situation showed up and tried to cause a problem, that the police would be there to put a stop to it. Essentially PROCTECTING those "rabble-rousing black folks"! And making sure that their demonstration was not interupted, and making sure to protect their freedom to assemble. Not to mention as Dr W stated himself, that there were a ton of TV crews there which would require police to be there to keep the Tv crews in order(meaning were not blocking traffice and disrupting the peepz who live in that area). NO, Dr W sees them being there as ONLY to Watch and Wait for Them to get out of line and then put a beat down on Them!! Such a sick mind, always talking about "racial profiling" and "judging" some one by skin color. Yet isn't that just what he does when it comes to Police?? Dr W only saw them there as "Bad Guys", now you tell me who is the one "profiling" and "judging"???? That is All some one should need to see, to see the Hate that consumes Dr W's mind!!!

One other thing! As Dr W and Al have decided that they NEED to do something to support Her, I too felt the need to STOP her from giving peepz the idea that her actions were Right! I advised Dr W on his Website that if they decided to show up and continue to show HER as some kind of victim that I would be sure to Show her for what she is. I have sent the County a message to investigate her application for the Subsidized housing she was living in. Since she and her lawyer submitted documents to the court that showed her Address from her employer as being at her fathers. And she submitted her Tax Returns that also showed her fathers address. Since I know the County has Stict Standards on the qualifications and requirements to get subsidized housing they might not be to happy about the documents she submitted to "A COURT OF LAW"!! And I have sent the same Type of Info on to the IRS. I am sure that they will be interested in whether or not her parents were using her or the kids as some kind of deduction or write off. As well as looking into all the extra things she was getting, as in the free lunch program at the school only because she failed to provide the info of the money she gets from the kids father. I am tired of having to bust my bum day in and day out at 2 jobs to support my family. I have not bought myself anything, have told my wife to Not buy me Birthday or X-mas gifts because our money needs to go to bills and our son!! Yet I am supposed to just let this woman scam the system and the peepz who pay into it, and then get treated like some Victim...OH Heck NO!!! I work to much to be able to just show up at some Rally when ever I feel like it, But I can still do my part to protest. So when the county and IRS makes actions against her, lets see if Dr W and Al show up to bail her out again!!!

She didn't even show up?...lol ..lol What does that tell you about both her, and this case that is slowly unraveling! I agree this entire process is nothing more than the usual black circus atmosphere, and it's simply pathetic, and sad! Sharpton, and Boyce need to be exposed for exactly what they are! Keep on beating the drums of "truth" for these "stuck on stupid" peeps in here! Stay the course!

OMG! Nothing but rednecks responding. I bet u jerks get paid for
being on here. (bill Schrier)
Our tax dollars pay for all children to have a decent education and
districts should not be segregated. If Bolar has to pay then the Ohio
Educational system has to pay for breaking the law,
so we have a real juicy story here. Let's just see who the rednecks
are that broke the law. Bolar is not in this stew pot alone and I'll
bet that Ohio will back down.
This case is just the tip of the iceberg. Let's see how many millions
of illegal aliens are sitting in those very same seats that Bolar's
children were sitting in. Plenty of mud in the face and filthy hands
manipulating the system in favor of white people and illegal aliens.
@Quigley, Shrier, truth, Greg and all u self righteous morons-you are so stupid that u will
pay for 20 million foreigners to sit in those seats and eat up American tax dollars but lock up one African American. (twisted logic) You know what--the illegal aliens have a big surprise coming down the pike for u
and all white people. I really think that you are small minded little men who relish living by the Doctrine of Hatred (your American way) because you are so afraid. You should be glad that Bolar brought this issue to light for the sake of all American children.
TX a mil Dr. Watkins for addressing this issue, spending your time
and money to see this through. And this time I will thank Sharpton also. Keep up the good work.
If u start a fundraiser to address and support this issue I will be first in line to
contribute. The census data as reported is incorrect and I wonder how
many times has it been incorrect. If the IRS investigates Bolar, then
the AG's office needs to investigate The State of Ohio and the other
49. Do I hear class action suit?

People have been sending their kids to schools in other districts for more than 50 years so this is not unusual to me. What is despicable is that a woman should be fined and jailed for an action that has been repeated thousands of times without persecution. What is deplorable is the NEED for someone to send their child to another school district because of the school funding that the Ohio Supreme Court itself stated was inequitable. How about let's address that issue? How about let's level the playing field in the real world - not just on a piece of a paper in a Court ruling that is not enforced. How about why are tax dollars from one community used to beef up education in another community? This is not a question of theft of services. This is an educational equality issue . . . one that obviously still needs fighting for despite the landmark 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education ruling stating that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal." One might argue that Brown was about segregation but isn't inequitable distribution of educational funds designed to make schools in whiter communities infinitely better than those in poorer black communities a blatant form of segregation?
