Veteran Democratic Congressman John Conyers voiced some disappointment in President Barack Obama - and said he wants to help the leader of his party to do better.
In a speech at the National Press Club on Monday, Conyers criticized Obama on a number of fronts - from his overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system and management of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to agreeing to Republican demands last year to extend tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, was first elected to Congress in 1964 - three years before Obama was born. He backs Obama, but says, "I just want to make him a better president."
Conyers is not alone in his complaints. A number of Democrats in Congress have expressed frustration with Obama, particularly for what they describe as his failure to push harder on liberal issues.

"The recent debate on healthcare has allowed opponents of the new law to say we have gone too far - when the truth is we have not gone far enough," said Conyers, a backer of "a single payer" approach that would have a greater government involvement in delivery of health care.
"We've been in Afghanistan and Iraq for a decade, and it's time to leave both," he said.
"Jobs cost House Democrats the election last year and could next cost (Democrats) the Senate and the presidency in 2012 unless we address the issue," he said. "Pandering by giving Republicans more tax cuts is the wrong strategy that has not worked for the last 10 years to create jobs."

Wow, this must present a real puzzle to blacks who read this article.
Here one extreme left wing black, Conyers, is criticizing another less extreme (but still extreme left wing) black, Obama. Of course, the less extreme left wing black only APPEARS to be less extreme, in reality he is just as extreme or more so, but is able to hide his true self in the interests of self-ambition. Obama will say or do anything to be popular and try to win the next election. If that means appearing to tilt to the center from his left wing perch, he'll do it.

The difference is that Conyers only has to run in a Congressional district, a nearly all-black extremely left wing congressional district. Obama has to run for re-election in the entire USA, a center-right country. Now, Obama fooled the country once that he was a centrist, but his first 2 years have been one socialist program after another foisted on the country, along with unprecedented debt. He knows he MUST APPEAR to be more centrist in the year leading up to the election to have any chance. I still give him no chance of being re-elected, he may not even be re-nominated as a candidate.

The only thing that's "puzzling" is that people buy into Kevin Eason's slanted stories!
As for Conyers, he wasn't that extreme when he attempted to defund Black music 'Artists' in their attempts to recoup money that was rightfully theirs from the local radio stations.
Also, I am still confused as to why the POTUS SHOULD NOT have compromised. Again, if he didn't we would have had the '99ers' w/o unemployment insurance and EVERYONE taxes would have shot up! During this recession, we can't afford that. The very same congressmen who complained, admitted that they could've taken this vote up two-three years agoinstead of waiting for the last second. They used this man as a human shield. Conyers, Elijah Cummings and Jim Clyburn are all a part of the President's grand scheme.....they better be, because no one on this planet is that stupid!
Btw, where are ALL those people who said, "Obama ain't gonna fix this mess in 4 years! Hell, he'll need @ least 6!"? Now there all talking about what, when, where and how....in the first TWO YEARS! Kevin Eason is employed by right-leaning AOL. Bottom Line!

First please stop taking Fox News as serious news. Second the day that President Obama is an "extreme Left" president is the day I will be born again. Extreme Left is European Socialism not that BS the T party yells out of ignorance. I know you are older than 40. Its something defunct about the conservatives in your generation. Not only do they call the President socialist while holding signs paid by social security checks, but the Red states get more hand outs than kids on Halloween. But maybe you don't want to get into politics or history with me, because i am a news and politically junkie. I spend 3-5 hours a day on news sites and news blogs. And to top the cake I'm 23

Just curious to know if this is the same Craig Cobb from Dayton, OH, who attended Hampton University. This president has accomplished more in two and a half years, in a positive way, than the previous president did in 8 years that negatively impacted this country and its people. It's sad that he isn't given more credit given the hand he was dealt when he took office. Hopefully one day people will recognize his true worth.

Why would you think Conyers admonishment of the president presents a dilemma to blacks? It's not a dilemma at all. President Obama is not perfect. Neither was Bush, Reagan or any other president you could name. I want this president to be successful. If communicating my opinion of his shortcomings makes him a better president, so be it.
