During his other interviews, I've always wondered if Tiger used a Barack Obama-like carefulness to ensure that he never appeared "too black" at one time. America has a nasty way of judging black athletes and black men, in general, so the corporate and political strategy is always one that is polluted by an uncomfortable racial fickleness. Athletes end up saying things that make them sound weak and dumb, or apologizing when they did nothing wrong. It's actually quite humiliating.
I'll admit that I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw from both Tiger and Roberts during the interview. Not only was the black athlete being interviewed by a black host, but they also featured a group of kids from the Tiger Woods Foundation, all of whom appeared to be African American. There was no awkward window dressing, throwing in a white or Asian kid for every other black kid or desire to make Tiger appear to be "post-racial." The interview was just a bunch of happy black people talking about golf.
This is not to say that having a non-black person in the interview would have tainted the experience. It's just to say that it's rare that a man with such a mixed public brand and persona would not go out of his way to continue groveling to a country that has yet to forgive him for being a sex addict. Whether it's calling for the death penalty during Michael Vick's dog-fighting trial or suggesting that Terrell Owens gets psychiatric help, America loves to define the black male athlete as a dysfunctional, unethical sociopathic menace to society. Tiger and Roberts were as cool as two cucumbers in the freezer section, talking sports, fatherhood and laughing their way to a great interview. I loved it.
During the conversation, Tiger talked about the joys of fatherhood. He also did a good job of promoting his new video game, "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters." The game has a neat way of allowing you to actually pretend to play golf by swinging the joy stick. Obviously, Tiger's video game sales took a significant hit after the controversy with his wife, and his brand has yet to recover completely.
Finally, Robin went into the least comfortable part of the interview, where she mentioned the fact that this is the first year since he was 11 years old that Tiger has gone the entire season without a single win. The man who once exceeded the greatness of both Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan has been reduced to a laughingstock for the haters who once couldn't stand him. He is no longer the number-one ranked golfer in the world, which is a position he held for nearly a decade.
Tiger has won 14 majors, just four less than the "untouchable" record of 18 majors held by the great Jack Nicklaus. Some wonder if Tiger can ever get it together and make another charge at the record. I personally believe that he can do it, but for some reason, I'm starting to doubt it.
Great achievements sometime require an internal hunger that can never be satisfied. For example, Michael Jordan never had enough championship rings because he always seemed to feel that no matter how great he became, he was still never good enough. His Hall of Fame speech was a great example of this fact, where he spent the entire time degrading the men he'd played with for years. Jordan's extreme arrogance and narcissism appeared, to some, as a flawed effort to hide a set of deep-seated insecurities.
When Tiger first started playing golf, he was the hungriest beast known to man. He didn't want you to win anything, and he didn't want you to even think that you could compete with him. If you had one win to his 10, he'd murder you to take the one victory you had. He was also anxious to position himself among the gods of golf, something he'd dreamed about for years.
Since that time, money, women and the trappings of fame seem to have stolen Tiger's edge. He's not a young, angry warrior who desires constant domination over his surroundings but, instead, has become an old, reflective, rich guy with bags under his eyes. I hope that I'm wrong about Tiger, for nothing gave me more inspiration than watching another black male dominate the country clubs that would never have allowed his father to become a member. Seeing Woods fall to the wayside broke my heart -- the way I felt while watching Muhammad Ali take a beating from Larry Holmes back in 1980. We all want to believe that the great ones will remain on top, but the cost of being a world beater can sometimes be too high. Even if he never wins another tournament, Tiger Woods will always be a legend, and we must all forgive him for suddenly becoming human.

Tiger, it's just a little bit too late for some Black love. The old Tiger did not need Black people.....remember?
You got busted, your ass is draggin' you can't win anything and you are desperately seeking help....As Flava Flav says....."I ain't got nuthin' for ya man"
Why is Tiger Woods still seeking any forgiveness from the American public and why try this "I am approachible and accessible" approach when he had every opportunity when his personal life went straight to hell to correct the record instead of going into a panic lying and living in total denial when asked about his then media created "All American" now failed marriage, his constant cheating and the myraid of sexual partners and conquests with the White women that he purposely seeked out and conducted during the course of his entire marriage.
Those non convincing lame ass press conferences and his numerous tries at deflecting criticism and not answering questions when eveyone & the press asked but instead getting angry when it was all his fault and no one else's; he was the one that got busted and now it's a little bit to late to try and get any sympathy from the public.
He totally disregarded Black people from day one )he Calabasian, not Black) and wanted no association with them. He cheated (and is now a registered sex addict) lost his wife & family life, he lost tons of money and endorsements, he lost all his credibility and he lost his swagger and mojo and now he can't win a golf tournment to save his life and he is literally hanging on by a thread......And now that everythig is rock bottom in the world of Tiger Woods, it seems that he now want some love from Black folk.
It's way too late for that Mr. Woods....You choose the White folk as the universal symbol of who you are and now that hace disowned you; you're not winning and not making any money for them but losing money and they are now laughing at you and have literally kicked you to the curve now you need family....a new family that will embrace you and help sooth your mental wounds so you can get your golf game back hut you see Tiger, people like you are users who use people for your advantage and once everything is back on track for you, you abandon those same people who helped you get it back.
Try and connect with your mother's people from the Philippines (the Filipinos) as a shoulder to lean on since you are of that half.
Black don't want you. Black folk ain't havin' it.

I SOOOOOZZZZZ AGREE! Are you kidding me? All African-American kids? Please! Tiger is doing what O.J. and M.J. did when a portion of white America caught them slippin' or set them up, whichever you believe, and stripped them Negroes dry. They used the desire of the African-American community to embrace their "fallen heroes" as a stepping stone to redeem themselves. I'd like to see the spots that we're filmed prior to Tiger's fall. Oh, but the best adverstisement of all is the natural blond he chose to bear his children. I'm all for lovin' who you love, but if someone believes Tiger didn't chose her just to be accepted or admired by the great golf world, you're confused or delusional.

I am soo confused on how a dark-skin Mongloid looking man with only ONE black Grandparent is considered black. Who cares who he associates with? He is NOT "one of us."

i completely agree with oooozzz about his disassociation with blacks during his apex of popularity, however, blacks are very forgiving, and they weren't as angry with his cheating as whites. tiger is human, and anyone who thinks otherwise should have his/her head examined. personally, i hated to see his fall from grace and i'm looking forward to the time when he starts to win again. but maybe it took something traumatic like this to make him realize who really has his back at the end of the day. good luck tiger!

You know...I believe in 2nd, 3rd fourth chances. What if GOD wanted to throw us away after every mistake we as his children make everyday? I guess that is why he is GOD and we humans are not!! BUT...what I think is hard for black people to accept from Tiger at this stage is why did it take you falling from the pedastal that white people placed you upon for you to "get it?" Because let's be honest...Tiger Woods was another O.J. He purposely disassociated himself from his culture. He wouldn't even claim his blackness. White people so called loved him but please...they hated to see this black man at the top of THEIR game!!! It ate them up!!! It had them losing sleep at night!! And here is Tiger...knowing that he is secretly dispised by the very people he's vying acceptance from. And yet Tiger makes no effort to embrace his culture. I'm not talking about negating his mothers heritage, but also accept your black heritage and he did nothing of the sort. Now that he has tore his drawers...he wants to be excepted into the fold?? How...he was never there. Never acknowleged his own blackness...never desired to. I doubt very seriously that had Tiger not made a mockery of himself with the unfortunate events that took place in his life and if he was still on top of the golf game would we have seen all black children on GMA. You know this people. Tiger if you are sincerly changing and now accepting your black culture..I hope it's true and authentic and not just another ploy to redeem yourself. Black athletes or for that matter black men will never understand that it doesn't matter in this country how great you are at what you do, how many white women you marry or how many bi-racial kids you have..whites will never look at you as being ONE OF THEM or even on the same playing field. Yeah, they will love ya..then happily tear you down and they could care less if you're married to "becky." So, it's just best to be the best person GOD made you to be. No need to Uncle Tom around!!! You are already standing in greatness. I really do pray that Tiger finds himself because I know that is what's missing and he is dumbfounded probably at the fact of how many white friends have turned their backs on him. He needs to lean on GOD only. And I hope black men period will learn from this because Lord knows, they didn't learn anything from O.J.

Tiger Woods failed to relize the oldest con in history. The man becomes wealthy, marries a women of lesser wealth, then fatherhood. The wife devorces him&a court award the wife a large portion of the wealth. As for his race Tiger is black,he is very much aware of this I,m sure.Once he wakes up from the mental dream of being white,no money or white sponsors,no white girlfriends,he will understand the con.

I am reading all the haters out there about Tiger, but I ask why? The guy is biracial. What's wrong with that?
Remember, he didn't choose to be biracial, nor did you choose to be all black. Also, while you are hating Tiger for marrying a white girl and dating white girls, that is his choice, just like other black guys marry and date other races. Also, how many black fans were at these tournments? So, Tiger difinetly didn't make his millions off of black fans or black sponsors, so why all the hating? Its his life, let him live it as he chooses it. Remember, he could have dated or married a black woman and suffered the same fate.
