On Wednesday, President Barack Obama released his long form birth certificate in order to lay the "controversy" to rest that he isn't an American citizen.
Later that day, the President and First Lady Michelle Obama flew to Chicago and sat down with Oprah, who wanted to know why the President waited so long:
"Why did you wait so long, though? When it first came up, were you thinking, 'I hope I was born here?'"
Amid laughter from the audience and Mrs. Obama yelling, "He was born here!" the President replied he needed to get permission from the state of Hawaii to make the document public.
As for why he decided to release the document at all, President Obama -- echoing his press conference -- said that when he and fellow legislators were dealing with major issues such as the budget deficit a few weeks ago, seeing only the sensationalized Birther issue in the news made him decide it was time to meet the controversy head on:
"We are living in a very serious time, and America has huge potential and opportunity to seize the 21st century.
"We are only going to get there, though, if we have a serious conversation about the things that matter to people, jobs, gas prices, how do we bring down the deficit, how do we deal with all the changes that are going on in the world -- and we can't be distracted by sideshows, and as I said in my press conference, carnival barkers who are going around trying to get attention."
When the Birther Movement began rearing its ugly head about two years ago, I agreed with the school of thought that Obma shouldn't give in to these ridiculously racist individuals who wanted to focus on everything but what mattered.
Watching many in the public actually being swayed by this rhetoric, though, started to change my mind. According to a CBS poll taken last week, 45 percent of Republicans as well as 45 percent of Tea Partiers believe that the President was not born in the United States.
What started out as a laughable fringe group began dictating how and what the public thought.
And it wasn't funny anymore.
While many are still arguing that the President shouldn't have given in to these crack pot's claims, I think releasing the document took the wind out of the Birther's wings and chatting with Oprah afterward was the perfect nail in the coffin.
Good work, Mr. President.
Oprah's show with Obama and the First Lady will air on May 2nd, but you can watch the preview here:

The question is not, why the President waited so, late! It should be, why people didn't believe him in the first place. THE FIRST BC SHOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH.

Birthers are people who don't believe President Obama was born in the U.S. and who have requested his birth certificate.
Balders are people who want to see the birth certificate or death certificate of that thing on top of trump's head.

Msbrown, I was moved by your words, and wanted to share something with you. I was watching Bill O'reily (comic relief) and he actually had the audacity to say, "does the president believe, this is a fair and noble country". I found myself thinking, what is fair and noble about sicking dogs and spraying hoses on women and children. Historically, black people tend to be the most patriotic, in spite of how we were treated. And Donald Trump is just saying what a lot of white people think anyway. Have a blessed day.
So much for a post-racial society.

msbrown, So in your mind every country on EARTH is less racist towards black people then the US? If I felt that way and was black, the first thing I would do is go to any of those other country's to live. Wouldn't that just be the common sense thing to do? Go to Iran, see how much they like you as a black woman, you would do anything to get back here if you did. Go to China, they absolutely hate black people there, maybe you can answer Joans question, about what will you do when China takes over.

"Just makes my soul sick that these evil people disrespect an elected by the people president!"
Was the Senate disrespecting John McCain when they held hearings and made him produce his long form birth certificate before he ran? And McCain didn't hesitate, he immediately gave them a copy. Whereas, Obama has waited 3 years and finally came up with a suspicious, photoshopped-looking document that has MANY inconsistencies on it, making fraud a liklihood.

MsBrown, don't let you soul be sick with, the going on of the first elected Black president of the U.S.
You gave a pretty speech, but they don't care about content and character.
They want you to be sick, and don't bow to the stupidity that the racism has to offer.
Dr King was never sick, he fought on, and so did, the many, who died in the past to get the President where he is today.
Ms Brown be strong and show no weakness because that's what they thrive on. We as Black people should know by now, what it takes to move on! You fight evil with GOD strengh, not sickness!
Be strong!

@bLACKBEAR.
Hey, if i'm not mistaken, most countries outside the U.S. want to kill white Americans. These countries are a darker shade in color so, its very likely women or color are more exceptible than caucasians inn other countries. So, what are you talking about?

I pray that the President lets GOD fight these sick people and not try to hate tnem as they hate him, becuase GOD said "That revenge is mine".(Nahum 1:2) Just focus on what GOD put him there to do. If GOD is for him, than who can be again him.
