From the Associated Press:
President Barack Obama's approval rating has hit its highest point in two years - 60 percent - and more than half of Americans now say he deserves to be re-elected, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll taken after U.S. forces killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.
In worrisome signs for Republicans, the president's standing improved not just on foreign policy but also on the economy, and independent Americans - a key voting bloc in the November 2012 presidential election - caused the overall uptick in support by sliding back to Obama after fleeing for much of the past two years.
Comfortable majorities of the public now call Obama a strong leader who will keep America safe. Nearly three-fourths - 73 percent - also now say they are confident that Obama can effectively handle terrorist threats. And he improved his standing on Afghanistan, Iraq and the United States' relationships with other countries.
Despite a sluggish recovery from the Great Recession, 52 percent of Americans now approve of Obama's stewardship of the economy, giving him his best rating on that issue since the early days of his presidency; 52 percent also now like how he's handling the nation's stubbornly high 9 percent unemployment.

I'm glad that President Obama's rating is at 60%; but what does that mean? My point is his rating will be up and down throughout his term. It's just like the news media keeps asking "who can beat Obama in 2012." Well the intelligent answer is it's too early to tell. I am so tired of the news media with all of their drama.

This poll is biased. Just look at the party ID in the survey. 46 percent identified as Democrat or leaning Democrat, 29 percent identified as Republican or leaning Republican.

When polls are taken that are heavily Republican, his poll number are in the toilet. These polls are always biased.

One of the major reasons I quit watching TV; it's controlled by conservatives who lie and call it the [main stream liberal media] which is a balled faced lie. When those paid for protestors ( tea baggers) were protesting all you could see was those silly seniors talking about " keep your government hands of my medicare". When that slug of a governor in Wisconsin tried to kill the unions there was major protesting but you saw little about it on TV because it's not in the interest of conservatives.
I live in the bay area and enjoy talk radio but once a person leaves the city there's nothing on talk shows but conservatives programs, country & western, spanish stations, and religious stations. I despise all of those.
Thank God for the Internet.

The truth is that the Obama mess numbers are very low. Never in American history have we as a nation had such a bad President. Yes due to the death of the islamic muslum extremisist Bin Ladin his numbers went up a few points. That is but a tempory rise, already going down after a week.We still have high unemployment, high gas prices, criminal illegal immigrants and disasters across America that the White House has droped the ball on. The American people do not like his way of not doing his job performance and the pandering he does to the left wing far far left liberal extremisist fringe. American voters are indeed looking forward to replaceing this Obama mess in 2012. That new president will have his work cut out after 4 years of the Obama mess.

@Judy
You're kidding right! All the issues you described, Bush had the same issues. Actually, Bush put us there. At least with Obama its improving or have you not notice that.

I love President Obama but the polls will continue to go up and down between now and the election. What I want to know is why no one I know has ever been polled; nor do they know anyone that has ever been polled. Who do these pollsters poll??
