Obama Honors Fallen Troops

Tempers are flaring as members of the black intelligentsia are getting in on the melee surrounding Dr. Cornel West's controversial comments about President Barack Obama.
You know the slam heard around the world in Chris Hedges' posting on Truthdig earlier this week: "I think my dear brother Barack Obama has a certain fear of free black men," West said. "It's understandable. As a young brother who grows up in a white context, brilliant African father, he's always had to fear being a white man with black skin. All he has known culturally is white. He is just as human as I am, but that is his cultural formation. When he meets an independent black brother, it is frightening. And that's true for a white brother." Ouch.
Writer Adam Serwer threw down the gauntlet, lighting into West about his comments, calling them "petty" in a piece written for the American Prospect. Tuesday night, Ed Shultz invited West onto his The Ed Show on MSNBC, enumerating the digs (disguised as quotes, some would argue) that West has made about President Obama, including calling him a "black mascot of Wall Street oligarchs and a black puppet of corporate plutocrats." West also said that the president "now has become head of the American killing machine and is proud of it." Ouch again.

this is so wrong of an educated man to just come out and speak in such a angry tone about the president of our country.If you have a problem with this president why not find a way to meet on common ground with him and discuss your disatisfacions with him instead of airing your means spirit behavior on the t.v. and social network i believe you did not study all those years to become a idiot.So mr.west think smart not stupid nor bitter. And by the way he is president of us all whether you like him or not.another thing instead of your randits,you run for president and try winning, and if you win you make the changes where you are complainting mr.big stuff.now run and tell that.

give me a break.. he has his right to what he thinks just as everyone else... and if people dont like what the man said,. who cares....someone on here brought up Tavis Smiley... that man is a prick.... but still even he can say and think what he wants.. just because others want to fall and hang on every little word Obama says doesnt mean that we all are going to...

What planet are you from? This man had have tried to meet on common ground but been pushed aside and the refusal of the president to meet with him to talk is clear but little mind like you is blaming him. You forgot the government should remember to practice what they preach and in that circumstances, Mr. West got his free speech and it should be respected. People like you are why the world continue having problem everyday.

yes i said mr. west and the president should have a adult conversation on matter of the heart seem to me mr. west have the heart burns not the president.it still doesn`t speak good of mr. west to blast the president the way he have done.their are more important issues to work on as a people.let build each other up instead of tearing one another down. JUST SAYING!

What's wrong with what he said? Stop worrying about what master thinks and if we don't speak up we get nothing in return. Whatswrong with him voicieing his opinion. Get a grip. More of us should be making noise to get our agenda heard and responded to.

His comments along with that of Tavis Smiley got what they were seeking and that is ---publicity.
The next thing you know is he will try to capitalized on this if he hasn't already. So many time these guys has a hidden agenda funded by some outside influence.

I don't see anything wrong with Dr. West's commentary concerning President Obama. It's an opinion and I personally see it as correct. Obama has become the puppet of the status quo. He is the leader of the American Killing Machine. What happened to all the hope and change Obama used to represent? He found out it's easier to get re-elected killing and fighting for the rich than defending the poor.
