From Politico:
Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) knows why President Barack Obama is having so many problems. The answer is racism.
"People don't like to deal with it, but the fact of the matter is, the president's problems are in large measure because of the color of his skin," , the third-ranking House Democrat said Wednesday in response to a question about Obama's reelection prospects, McClatchy reported
An African-American himself, Clyburn, 70, grew up in the segregated south and was active in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. He said Wednesday that Obama must be aware of the racist messages that come from some in the country. "When he sees his face being put on a chimpanzee's body - do you think he didn't see that?" Clyburn said, referring to an e-mail that a member of a local California Republican party sent to friends last month. "And I suspect they send the same faxes to his office they send to mine."

I understood how he felt...We all knew racism is very much alive and well since slavery occured back in early 1600's..I think young people today are much more colorblind society than our previous generations...Guess what? in 21st century it will be more minority population!

@rudy Started down south before the 1600. I can guarantee it. The Carolinas were French colonized when New Orleans was still Spanish. Don Juan Almonaster is still buried in the nave of St. Louis Cathedral,NOLA. While on the other hand,my husband's family's ancestor was buried against the north wall of St. Louis cemetiere #1 which was designed in the custom of French cemeteries.
Check out HBO series Treme and check out the family making their Mardi Gras embroidered costumes. They are the descendents of the local slaves who ran off and became "Indian" families in the bush over the western ramparts and northwest of Pontchatrain. The family in this series is headed by Albert Lambreaux(Clark Peters) and Delmond Lambreaux, his son, who is a New York musician. Our family likewise has Native American Louisiana and Floridian ancestors and relatives.

He must really care, or else he wouldn't have put himself in that seat of power. As for the fall out, it's proof America has never been threw with the race question~ that's what it use too be called, race question~ quess who was questioning them? Them, being those in power who won't let go.

I've been told by his African-American brother and sisters not to talk about race anymore. I was puzzled by their not wanting to engage in others conversations about race.
Then it really explain why it was almost like hush, don't speak about race anymore. As if not speaking about race would make racism go away.
Silence does make the heart grow finer, but not at the expense of millions. So I didn't think about what was meant by not talking about race. I haven't really come to a conclusion other than their goals who are very comfortable in their lives right now and don't want to make waves, as in calling attention to the fact that they are among those who make these comments. For instance many African-Americans have to work among people who have these attitudes. In order to keep your job you have to figure out a way to survive all of these attitudes, e-mails, cartoons, and cigarette breaks where you are discussed as if you were not part of the workforce that you are in.
It's a dilemma that many are facing today. Every year we have months assigned to many of our cultures that live here in America. I do think that many resent that. I've read where common of why we doing this every year? So I think people are engaging a lot in these discussions, to no avail.
Each generation will take up what the last generation left behind as far as progress is concerned. Someone said to me not too long ago or maybe long ago, can you say that the more you do the Les gets done? As so you engage in years of struggle for change and after say 40 years as you become an elder in America, the full Circle is apparent. And that is each generation will have to continue to struggle to clear up whatever residue has been left behind from the struggles of the generation before them. That is what I see that is how it works and I hope that many will understand that as they come become elders that the completion was not complete. That is why we must mentor. As well as one mentor which means two men two women mentor means to mentor men and that has been a large part of the problem.
The room rose that has come home to roost. America has seen many good days and now we are seeing many days where change is not complete but is moving forward at the same time. It's almost like creating a new star where particles crash and an something is created apparently that's what people see as they become elders and is neither fast enough because we all know that we only have so many years of a life cycle. We would like to see what we have done to create change complaint. We may have to just be satisfied with seeing that the next generation carries the torch for change for equality so that we can all share in a life of freedom that does not assume it is the only freedom there is. I
Mr. Cliburn, thank you for expressing the truth. To it is the truth that millions already know but because someone spoke it, and we all say that is the truth. That is the truth. Thank you sir, this country has spoken it, we can all say that is the truth
