From The San Francisco Chronicle:
A former BART police officer is expected to be released from jail Monday after doing his time for involuntary manslaughter for fatally shooting an unarmed passenger on New Year's Day 2009, the victim's family said Thursday.
Johannes Mehserle, 29, was sentenced to two years for shooting Oscar Grant in the back while the 22-year-old Hayward man lay face down on the platform at Oakland's Fruitvale BART Station after being pulled from a train.

Listen, I really don't know the circumstances around this case but, a man shot in the back by a cop, as he lays on his stomach.
How many mistakes does it take before Black folks realize someone is geting away with murder.
Someone who accidentally shoots and kills a cop ( Not an innocent cop )should get the same treatment this cop got.
Now, maybe if the friends of Oscar Grant knew that then maybe they would feel better. Not implying anything, just thinking.

This climate of killing Afican Americans is leading to a total disresptect for authority by some in the community, the community is getting to the point where it is shoot first and deal with the consequences. I don't agree with this action but unfortunately this is where it is leading.

I live in the city where Mr. Grant is from. As far as the person who wants protest, we have had plenty of that. It was in downtown Oakland. Destruction of many small businesses, many black and other minority owned. Looting of expensive tennis shoes with a lot of grinning on camera. This went on more than once and had nothing to due with the case.
I wish as much attention was paid to the killers in our community that are getting away with murder and terrorizing their own people. We had a high profile case here of a black man in the community that was gunned down at one of his children's school function. One person said on camera, everybody knows who did it, but we all have to live here. Talk about no justice!!
At least this white man served some time, maybe not enough.

I havent read all thats been said on the preceeding posts but I am more than convinced that everything, every condemnation, every detestment and every denounciation has been given to this terrorist act of the state. What I will say however, there is a comming uprising in America by Blacks and every disenfranchised and humiliated minority within our borders,it will be so deep,so wide and so grievious that will cause the "powers that be" to look back on this video to find its reason but at that point they will be "the powers that was".On many of our jobs and casual aquaintences we have with Whites and Polly-anna Blacks,we are scolded with the words "stop being black and white" or "you are a racist " whenever we mention the prevailing practice of racism by white society sadly we have allowed their denial and intimidation to silence us into a fear thats just as destructive as their hidden hate and every once and awhile a video like this appear revealing their hidden hate

1. No one talks about the reason the cop was involved in the first place! Instead of sitting down on Bart acting like he had some sense, he was fighting! Now that is not to say that the killing was justified, but it is to say that our young people are often misbehaving and causing trouble themselves.
2. While this was a "crime" perpetrated by the State, and by a white officer, why is it that black folks don't have the same indignation about blacks who kill blacks daily. Where are black folks and the protest when black people commit (sp) killings against each other --- for example the killing of an innocent young black man in Atlanta by four black men --- where was the indignation and the protest? Where was Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Those four men decided to kill that young innocent black man for the heck of it. Why don't we protest these senseless murders. Why don't we protest the fact that our grandmothers and grandfathers and our young kids can't walk the streets in most predominantly black neighborhoods because of black violence.
Why aren't we raising our kids to respect the law and society and behave in public. Yes the murder of Oscar Grant was senseless. Yes the officer should have served more time. But why are we escaping "our" part in the tradegy? Once we were taught to behave in public, be respectable. I believe that the outrage is misplaced and to an extent unjustified. Yes, I know our history with the police and often times they are wrong dead wrong. But Oscar Grant had a role in his own murder. Cruel but true, IN MY OPINION

You said a mouthful!I think I know the case you refer to where an invited young man arrived at a party, and the univited guests that were turned away because they were known troublemakers, so they were angry and beat this child to death, all this child did was come to a party. These 4 young black men were caught but a mothers son is still gone. Another black on black murder. You are so right.

"Where are black folks and the protest when black people commit (sp) killings against each other ---"
In Philadelphia when Will Smith and Jada Pinkett came home from their busy work-schedule. Because it is the same in Philadelphia as other big metropolitan areas. They have organized protest marches which they led; fundamentally, if enough "black folks" attend these marches by well-known celebrities (rather than well-known casualties)other people (who go to the movies...etc.) will notice.
Al Sharpton can't be everywhere at once. He was right there where he was supposed to be when Obama was barely putting a foot down in New York while on his way to the New Hampshire Caucuses in time to campaign for his Presidency while he had other things on his mind as well: the vicious tribal warfare taking place in Kenya where he has paternal relatives. At the time Hilliary just sat down and cried from nerves; she is lucky to have been appointed to his cabinet as Secry.of State which has become a veritable women's position which did not start with Condileeza Rice.
The Reverend Al, was conducting protests in the midst of Christmas shopping season which riled a lot of native New Yorker white women indeed while Sharpton and the mothers of other victims of police killings ordered by former mayors in Manhattan, came to Brooklyn to comfort the widow of Sean Bell (he had been handcuffed to the hospital-bed where he died. Sharpton was also helped immensely by Juan Cole and Amy Goodman(the woman whom the police arrested immediately in St.Paul, Minnesota as soon as she stepped from her vehicle to attend and report on the Republican National Convention which could not be held in New Orleans because "it was raining there"; and you know what that means: that city will be over and all that history gone and what it meant to so many people like the family of my in-laws, just ordinary people who have lived there because the right systems for maintaining the Delta flow of mud from up-river is still not being handled correctly and, with no barrier wetlands, the hurricanes will destroy nearly four centuries of our culture swept away to sea and left under water.
Amy Goodman and Juan Cole were called by a minister in Sean Bell's neighborhood so they could come hear what a little boy had told him. This child was taken into custody unofficially and help by the police without a lawyer while they coaxed statements out of him as an observer of what had taken place. They certainly did not want any believable witnesses to verify in court what they saw the police do.
Amy Goodman who has had uncommon good sense in event after event of dispicable underhanded doings by metro police, representatives from Congress, party members misbehaving, and hapless Presidents somewhere on a boat docked on the Hudson drunk out of his mind while the municipal judges were furious in Manhattan but had to handle the overload on the docket stuck in the city jails whom police on order of the former mayor(hero of 9/11) had swept up from the streets on order of the lame duck president sleeping off his hangover on the gentle rocking of the boat.
Amy Goodman once again revealed what happened, after she remembered the train that passes by the neighborhood of the shootings is one of the last elevated remaining and that there are cameras inside on the waiting platforms where the trains pick up people headed for the airport on the ocean.
It is because of what she learned by reviewing the camera which clearly showed waiting passengers diving to the floor of the platform to escape the gun-fire visibly seen as bullets came through the glass windows high above the street where Sean Bell and friends were shot as they exited a nite-club where they had attended his bachelor party; and that is succinctly why Amy Goodman was arrested when she arrived in St.Paul attended by the same Republican politicians where the only woman welcomed was the fabulous-make-it-up-as-she-goes-along governor of Alaska while Mrs. John McCain stood silently by(I hope that lady from Arizona gets her chance to trip Sarah Palin one of these days before we end up with one of those "Crazy Ladies" of Republicanism as actually our president in name only!)
Amy Goodman is the journalist persona non grata of the Republican administrations ever since she went along for the ride to pick up former President Aristide of Haiti who had been dropped into the Congo bush to disappear after Colin Powell and Condi Rice told him why it would be good of him to do that because the Bush Menage would like that. After all, through CIA at an earlier day they had regularly sent bag men to drop off bribes to dictators in the Congo and elsewhere.
Where else would average Americans get the madeup idea that they think so funny about how Pres.Obama is going to build a moat with crocodiles along the Arizona/Mexico border to keep out the non-white illegals? If not from fact what the Congolese dictator had done to people who displeased him; including how the second Pres.Bush,jr. had released the Columbian druglords from the Federal prisons to break up the impending BiCentennial celebration in Haiti of the Slave Revolt against the French, while they kidnapped Father Pierre Aristide.
Why was this done while aided and assisted by the supposedly most intelligent and most skilled Secretaries of State? Because of the historically manufactured rationale that this particular group of people would spread the Black Revolution to the Southern United States from Haiti.
pS. INCLUDE in the crocodile-moat along the Arizona border story the fact that the police in L.A. on Cinco de Mayo one year ago shot rubber bullets into the picnic gatherers in the parks because they were not White. The later is the truth witnessed. While in Arizona itself on that same day, the Nazis marched with swastikas on their flags and arm-bands to disrupt the Hispanic-American parade; this was recorded on tv video and I saw it myself supplied by a friend who lives there.

I do not dispute or approve of "black on black" crime or any type of crime for that matter. However, in the BART case it became a matter of civil rights - the kid was treated and killed in the manner that he was because of his race and by a government official (law enforcement). The "black on black" crime is commited not because of race but merely accessibility of the victim to these "low lifes". Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson or any private citizen is not the keeper of black people. Black people are citizens of the U.S. and we should hold law enforcement accountable for the high rate of black on black crime. Notice there is no high rate of "white on white" crime.
