Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has joined other conservatives in using high unemployment rates among African-Americans as a bid against President Obama, saying that the president has performed so poorly that blacks will vote Republican in 2012.
"No administration in modern times has failed younger blacks more than the Obama administration," said Gingrich during the keynote speech at the Maryland GOP's annual Red, White & Blue banquet in Baltimore.
Gingrich cited high unemployment rates among African-American teenagers and said that the black vote is ripe for the picking.
"Think of the social catastrophe of 41% of a community not being able to find a job. But we have to have the courage to walk into that neighborhood, to talk to that preacher, to visit that small business, to talk to that mother. And we have to have a convincing case that we actually know how to create jobs," he said, as reported on talkingpointsmemo.com. "The morning they believe that, you're going to see margins in percents you never dreamed of decide there's a better future," Gingrich said. "It takes courage, it takes hard work, it takes discipline and it's doable."
Gingrich stepped in it earlier by calling Obama "the food stamp president," but said that if elected he would be a "paycheck president." Gingrich, a former Speaker of the House, invoked the phrase again during Thursday's speech, adding a bit of nuance, suggesting that blacks might have a come-to-Jesus moment this election and distance themselves from the president.
"I will bet you there is not a single precinct in this state in which the majority will pick for their children food stamps over paychecks," he said.
Gingrich's remarks ring similar to those of Rep. Michele Bachmann, who is also running for the Republican presidential nomination and told a group at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans last week that Obama "has failed the African-American community" for not doing more to bolster employment rates.

Gingrich has a long history of making what some have seen as patronizing, bigoted or outright racists remarks about minorities, women and the LGBT communities.
An article last year on mediamatters.org chronicled what it called "Newt Gingrich's history of bigoted remarks," from over the years.
Here's just a taste:
In August Gingrich compared the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero to Nazis erecting a sign near the Holocaust Museum or a Japanese memorial near Pearl Harbor.
In 2007 he said that bilingual education teaches "the language of living in a ghetto."
And in 1995 he said that women were not fit for front line combat in the trenches because "they get infections."
One of the more offensive of Gingrich's comments came in a 1994 interview with The New York Times, in which he proposed that the government should abandon giving poor young mothers welfare and instead start building more orphanages.
And during a radio show earlier this week with host Laura Ingraham, Gingrich criticized First Lady Michelle Obama's trip to Africa, again invoking black unemployment:
"Well you know when you had 45% African-American teenage unemployment in January in the United States, it would have been nice for the president to have focused on bringing that hope and optimism to young Americans as well as young Africans."

@ brownbreadnbutter,
Then go read Dr. Paul's latest book "Liberty Defined" - in this book Ron Paul details his views on 50 important topics of our day. It's a quick, simple and easy to digest book. If there ever was a way to get to know a candidate - this is it.
Ron Paul often is voting against his own party and the democrats. There is a reason he is known in D.C. as "Dr. No" - when you see votes of 428 to 1 votes - that is often Dr. Paul voting against the entire congress - usually because congress is overstepping their constitutionally mandated bounds - even if he agrees personally with the agenda - if it is unconstitutional he votes against it.
You can't find another congressman who has voted as consistently for the constitution and rule of law than Ron Paul. If you think that Ron Paul is like Obama or other members of congress you are radically mistaken.

A poor or middle class person of any race would be out of his or her mind to vote republican. These are the cold hearted selfish people who voted for and refuse to concede the ridiculous tax breaks for the wealthy. A lot of America's problems come from the wealthy who get not only tax breaks but bonuses, expense accounts that support ceo whores, dinners, plane trips, etc. The wealthy are wealthy because they live off of our backs.

The wealthy are wealthy because they EARNED their money in a free market. The so called wealthy are mostly small business owners who create most of the jobs in this country.
The way to fix the deficit and debt is to CUT government spending, not try to up taxes on the "wealthy" which would only kill private jobs and drive more jobs offshore to lower tax countries.

I am concerned about the high unemployment rate; but I am also aware that 91% of Americans are working. I am convinced that America is in a slow, but steady, recovery. In suspect that in early to mid, 2012, the ecomony will began growing at an accelerated rate; driven by industry's expansion and subsequent hiring. They will inflate prises to recoup losses they experienced during the economic slow down. The feds will step in and raise prime lending rate to slow inflation. Consumers will began excessive buying again; and all will be well in America once more.
So hold on America, Obama's plans for the ecomony recover will be visualized; and his approval rating will rise near or above 60%; causing the Dems and Independants to once again go to the polls in large numbers; while Conservative scratch their asses and ponder whether to vote or stay at home. Conservatives will have to regroup once again; because their plan to destroy Barack Obama at the expense of America will be averted. Mr Obama will be re-elected as President of the United States of America; with the majority of the brown and youth vote.
As bad as the economy is today; the consevative candidates are even more dismal. If they were actually able to get back in power; today's vote in the House of Representatives on whether to fund the war in Libya was an indication on how they will govern the country, bewildered.
A far a Ron Paul is concerned, the man has a few good ideas; but so do Donald Trump. His chances of getting the Republican nomination is as good as a overt gay getting laid at a KKK rally; or a snowball change in hell.
The reason is because no one really believe that if he became President, very few, if any, of his policies will ever see the light of day; regardless who is running the House and/or Senate; Democrats or Republicans. That just not how America works; if you don't believe it, look at the reasons behind the failures of some of Barack Obama's policies.
Washington is not a place for good government or compromise; regardless of which party is in power.
America has a high rate of illiteracy; and where their is high illiteracy, Democarcy can not work! The majority of the people elected to office are seriously flawed. So wake up and smell the stink of hypocracy and sleaze. This is American government today!!! The browns are ascending to power; while whites grapple to maintain it.

@ John G. Simms,
Just want to the you for someone who opposes Dr.Pauls views and but gave a very intellectual and thought provoking rebuttal.
1. "The feds will step in and raise prime lending rate to slow inflation. Consumers will began excessive buying again; and all will be well in America once more."
As far as the FEDS; They have aided and abetted every major financial scheme in recent history. If libertarian economics were in effect we probably wouldnt have had the financial crisis caused by the bubbles created by the FEDs loose monetary policies, but even if they did ,the free market would have been allowed to correct itself. the companies who failed would have failed like they should have. We would not have bailed them out by printing money and debasing our currency.
Ron Paul has fought to end the FED for many years and has spoken of Austrian Economics for many years.
The current economic policy is just basically, when in doubt print money. You can not cure your illness by taking what made you sick in the first place. We do not even know what a free market really is anymore besides in the consumer electronics market. All we have is a bubble economy and all bubbles burst. Wait till the college loan bubble burst or when the bond bubble burst. I just don't see anything wrong with wanting sound money especially since in the history of FIAT currency, they have ALL failed.
2. "America has a high rate of illiteracy; and where their is high illiteracy, Democarcy can not work!"
Any FOOL knows that Democracy is nothing but a CON game. It’s a WORD invented to placate people. To make them accept a given INSTITUTION. All this institution is saying is "WE ARE FREE" the moment you hear Freedom of Democracy, watch out because in a TRULY FREE Nation, NO ONE HAS TO TELL YOU, YOU ARE FREE! Think for yourselves . You might like.
Namaste
