From Colorlines:
The tight circle of family and friends still reeling from the loss of Oscar Grant has been dealt another tragic loss. On Friday evening Johntue Caldwell, Oscar Grant's best friend and the godfather of his daughter, was found dead inside his car in Hayward, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Caldwell, who was 25, was found inside a Cadillac parked at a Union 76 gas station, the paper reported. According to the police, the shooter walked up to Caldwell and shot through the windshield. Police are still searching for a motive for the shooting, and believe that Caldwell was not the victim of a random incident.

The cops cops can't kill us fast euough so in our frustration we kill ourselves and call ourselves men! We have babies with men we know will not help
raise the children and call ourselves women. I dosen't matter who did what; the deed itself is what is wrong. Plays right into the hand of those in charge that want us either enslaved(jailled)or dead. I believe it's called Tirage.

You are so right. Some things that go on with us is not the fault of anyone but we ourselves. Please, let's stop playing the blame game. We should carefully choose our (husbands) not boyfriends to start families. Have some morals and raise our children to be productive citizens in this world.

Is this person impotent(important) or something? What did he do to get his 1 minute of shame? Surprised to know people buy gas at a 76 gas station. Sorry, the guy has nothing to do with my life. He's just another shot dude to me. No big deal.

I'm a white boy living in East Bay. I know you'll correct me if I'm wrong, but it sure looks like most of the murder, mayhem, random shootings, and violence are coming from WITHIN the African American community. Now I understand that A.A. have a hard time with cops, who are mostly as nervous as as cats stuck in a dog house. Wouldn't you be if you were in their boots? When there are witnesses to crime, everybody shuts up, not so much because they hate "the man" but out of fear of retribution from the perpetrators. There are places in East Bay which have devolved into some kind of Hell on Earth, but there are things which can be done IF a community pulls together to dissolve the riff-raff. I mean no disrespect.

Oscar grant was killed by a white Bart officer and the man was unarmed. When you placed any race of people in a project or rundowned unkept buildings, how can they be inspired to have visions to achieve or face the next day in dispair, when even their grocery store is not in their community and the small mom and pops meat and vegetables are not fresh and a high price to buy. They go to schools where they are sterotyped and look once again at peeling paint, unclean bathrooms,no laptops,no swimming pools or state of the art gyms or playgrounds and no activities to learn a hobby or skill for after school jobs and the world want kids to not express themselves of the great bankrupt of their community. Many go hungry and no one cares.Start a food bank my dear white brother or take a sign to city hall meetings and to balance the money in Black communities and give them restarurants, faast food chains and cut back on the liquor stores in the community.Give them a bowling alley and a golf course and a descent park that is protect until 10 pm and serves snacks.Teach chess and reading ,pyhsical exercises and comedy and how to handle difficult people so they can't stop your dreams and goals.Help mankind and if you have become numb/insensitive about a man's death then I question ,why are you living and what are you doing to better your life and the community.Protect the young girls and boys in the community and not destroy the lives that could and probably will be that next scientists or doctor if they had a helping hand and it s for all mankind.Peace to the white brother and all the black voices that can make a change in someone's life.Say hi to the elderly or cut grass and be kind and thoughtful.

Thank you, Ms Ann. I think what you said comes from an open heart. I feel for the African American community and I wish there was something I could do other than what I already do; I extend my hand in friendship and treat everyone with respect. I usually get it back because of my obvious sincerity. Yes, I could start a food bank, but I honestly feel that communities need to work from within and lobby for the parks to stay open and protected so kids have a safe place to recreate, just like any normal white community. Also, there's lots of dysfunction among whites, esp. those without education, who are on welfare, or use drugs like crack or meth! Alcohol is also a big problem among lower class whites, and all the problems that go with it like wife beating and automobile accidents.
I remember when the LA riots happened, after the Rodney King video surfaced, and later I went to visit my friend, who lived in Lamert Park, an upscale middle class black neighborhood. He showed me around
and told me how all the supermarkets got burned down, robbed, or vandalized, and how the chains were so leery of re-building because they thought it was a losing proposition.
I don't have the answers. I can barely keep my own life together, but my heart is in a good spot. I have no hate for anyone. I am lucky, but it takes work and I know if I was living in a toxic community it would be more difficult to keep straight without bitterness. I am going to be totally honest here and state something which I've never said: I think African Americans have an inferiority complex and the whites have always done their best to reinforce it, right up to the school desegregation and Rosa Parks of recent history. Out of their own fear they propagate untruths about people, and those people have to remain strong or they start believing what others say about them. They also have to act. Remember this: "The best revenge is success!"
Black people have got to get proud, not in a defensive reactionary way, but with real progress from within their own homes and communities. I have many Chinese friends, and I see how they went from one of the most reviled races in America to being the most successful in America! They did it through close family structures, and their respect and enforcement of good education. And they suffered through many hardships on their path to success.
I am not very ambitious, nor am I a saint, but I help my neighbors whenever I can, and I give people respect. I feel bad for the black communities, but I also see that places like Oakland have the potential to be fantastic neighborhoods; and the place to start is right there, get at the roots of what's causing one of the most beautiful communities on the planet to rot from within! It breaks my heart to see it. On the other hand, I see many many black people who exhibit the best human traits and whom I would trust with my life. I just remember when Obama got elected there was such a feeling of love and hope. Please don't give up! Peace and Love to you and thank you for your shedding some light on the struggles of my brothers and sisters here...

So sad that this young man was killed like so many others. Hopefully it will not remain anonymous due to some no-snitching rule that continues the mayhem in the community. So many young people are lost to the wrong side, we really have to try to save the babies before they too choose the wrong lifestyles and associates and end up dying young because of senseless violence.
